6sj7 tubes

Post by surfsup »

Anyone have a decent source? (or a few good tubes they don't want?)...

ANy opinions on these tubes from novobirisk russia that are selling at reasonable prices on ebay? tubedepot has some tubes but they are "various brands" and that's about all they say. I emailed em for more info. Anyway, if anyone has any tips to find decent tubes thanks in advance...

eBait. Old stock, used, glass. 6SJ7-GT. Hold out for reasonable prices, as you can then justify it to yourself if you buy some losers.

If you can buy the red metal ones, they are supposed to be special, too. But I have no way of knowing.

I can't tell you what to pay, but I'm thinking about $10/tube because you have no real recourse like you do with a bricks and mortar, flesh and blood tube dealer with a reputation to preserve. Look for multiples like this to keep you from getting killed on the shipping, if you feel like gambling:

There are always cheap singles like this, also taking a chance/gamble:

Tested (whatever that means)! Here:

Another tested one...I can hardly hold myself back, what are you waiting for at this BIN price?

Phil, lol there's still 2+ days left on that and no bids. I think I can wait since I haven't even figured out what I want to do yet, let alone have a chassis, iron, etc.

No comments on the Novobirisk tubes from Russia? Hmm...maybe I'll take the risk and report back.

I have had great luck with the metal can 6SJ7's. My '54 Silvertone champ clone uses a 6SJ7 and I never found the glass ones to sound any better than the metal can ones.

Also I have a ton of extras (as well as the lower mu 6SK7) if you need a few..

But, Cliff, the glass ones are so much more attractive :o

I have to post a dissenting view that the glass gt's feel much more responsive and 'alive' than the metal can tubes - I've found this to be the case with other can type tubes, don't know if the metal adds capacitance or what, but they have a dull feel to me as a player - but can in a sense sound smoother in hi fi applications - but for hi fi, you really want the pretty glass tubes anyway.
Life is a tale told by an idiot -- full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.
