Could you power a single 6sl7 in the preamp with a wall wart? Thanks

if you could find a 6vdc wallwart with a 1A (for arguments sake) current rating then sure. it'd be easier doing 12aXX type tubes because 12vdc wallwarts are more common. you could use a 12vdc wallwart output and run that through a little 6v/1A regulator to drop the voltage and do it that way too, i'm assuming you're subject is just about the heaters here. rh

I have read that the heater wires can cause noise in 6sl7 preamps and that a way to prevent this is to run the 6sl7 with it's own heater source. Thanks, Andrew

not just 6sl7's but 6v preamp tubes in general can have heater noise moreso than 12v tubes that take advantage of their humbucking filament construction to reduce this. you don't have to have an extra external voltage source---you can just rectify/filter (10000uf/10v filter cap) and run them off the standard filament winding on your power trannie or you can float dc on them with a voltage divider off the B+ (usually in the 50-70v range if believe) connected to the 6.3v ct. rh
