New Build Clips or What i Did Over the Holidays

Post by gldtp99 »

Over the holidays i got some bench time and built two heads--- a 10 watt single ended hard rocker and a mostly stock 50 watt Plexi (out of leftover Metro parts-- chassis, faceplate, turretboard, PT).
I built the 10 watter for a friend who has played on most of my amp demos for free over the last few yrs---he doesn't play live anymore but records at home and i hope he can get some good use out of this one--- it's his Christmas present--- i'll be adding faceplate/logo and a transformer coupled DI on back panel--- with a dummy load on OT secondary when there's no speaker jack connected-- it rocks--- it's the left rhythm channel and both Lead channels in this clip:

This 10 watter uses PT/OT lifted from a 1968 Bogen CHB10A PA head---- orig running a single 7868-- now has an RCA Blackplate 6L6GC----- has a Better Coil and Transformer PT and a 606-code Schumacher OT with 4/8/16 ohm taps---- 125C3A-type choke from CE----- four gain stages into CF driven tonestack (typical AFD/SIR #36 Mod as seen all over the web)--- controls are: Gain 1, Gain 2 ,Treble, Mid, Bass, MV--- did i mention it rocks ?

Pics of it so far:http://s46.photobucket.com/albums/f112/ ... e%20Ended/

The 50 watt Plexi build is used in the center channel in this next clip--- a modded (by me) '66 Bassman is on the left track and my flooded/rebuilt '62 Blonde Bandmaster is on the right track----

here's one version of the #36 Mod:

Combine and you'll have close to the amp i built--- my Power Supply is different because the PT i used is a Voltage Doubler-type (pulled from a Bogen CHB10A PA head)--- if i build more similar amps i'd use a more conventional Power supply---- unless i happen across more Bogen CHB10A's for cheap.

Here's some gutshots as it is now--- i need to finalize some things inside--- the few spliced and paralled components (part of the tweaking-- was short on time---studio recording date looming).
And i'll be changing out all the preamp tube sockets--- this is the first time i used these particular ones and i'm not at all happy with them.
I'll see what i can do on a schematic--- be patient....................gldtp99

PS-- notice Voltage Doubler type Power Supply--- this is taken from the Bogen CHB10A PT i used for this one---- there are simpler ways to build an amp like this but that's the PT i had for this one

It does rock! Good work, I love the sound you've got with the 10W. 8)
