am i on the right track

Post by jestaudio »

Ok folks, i,m building up a 36 watt marshall style build based around the tmb circuits, essencialy i am aiming to access the two channels vis a foot switch and add a tone stack to the clean channel in place of the tone control, i reckon i should be able to just clone the drive channels tone stack and insert after the clean gain pot, this brings me on to the second part of the build which is channel switching, again pease correct me if i,m going about this the wrong way but effectivly i,m aiming to use a small relay to swap channels with the unused channel being shorted to earth, its similar to the dumble elay circuit but i,m slightly concerned about gettin a audible click as the relay swaps channels.
i,ll post some pics when i get a chance of the chassis and the now installed TDC power transformer

Any advice will be much appretiated :D

I built and sold some handy relay boards, and my experience is that you will get a small "pop" with relays. You might be able to improve this by installing some 20M resistors to ground on the signal ins and outs, like some pedals do.

But in live use, the relay noise will never be a problem. And, I'm not a recordist, but I would think any noise in a recording environment could be XXed out in post production.

While I've put relays in all my amp builds thus far, I'm working on a new amp that will use OptoMOS switches. You can get them in 2xNO, 2xNC, AND NO/NC styles. The combo unit I prefer is a Mouser # 849-LCC-120. Very low power draw, and completely silent.
