e-cap score on eBait - I lost my mind?

Post by Phil_S »

I don't even remember how I came across the auction. The seller had a best offer button. I offered $6.50 + $5.20 shipping for 100 (yes one hundred) 22uf 20v electrolytic caps. Lemme see.... that's less than 12 cents per cap. This is a lifetime supply of preamp bypass caps. I'm quite sure I lost my mind going for this. Maybe if I'm lucky, I can resell them for 50 cents each and build my fb on eBait?

BTW, this is a Philadelphia seller, not China or HK.

Great score!
Make sure you test them with a good capacitor tester under full voltage, not a handheld meter.

I've had this type of luck only to find out they tested bad / leaking.

Yeah...more to the story. Today, I finally took a good look at what arrived. They are 16V caps. I suppose that are good for cathode bypass on preamps, but I didn't get what was advertised and contacted the seller. Since they were dirt cheap, I've have auction running to have a bit of fun and get my money out of them. Let's say, it's hard to get burned on a purchase that is under $12 including shipping, but I feel burned. We all know the risks of eBait, and that is a good reason not to get into any sort of expensive deal with a seller you don't know.

There were over 100 in the bag. I split them into 4 lots that I'll try to sell one at at time. If anyone here is interested, you can have a lot of 25 for $7.00. This is to cover the cost of the caps, a padded envelope (which I need to buy) and USPS 1st class postage (USA delivery only).

I'm not sure. There is no brand marking on the cap. They look nice enough and they came in an open Matsushita bag. Panasonic? Maybe. Could be. They are purple. Most Panasonic I've seen are either black or very dark blue.

...and I heard from the seller who says he wants to make things right, refund if he doesn't have the correct item. He didn't ask for me to return the caps either. We'll see what happens, and I'd like to think this will go well.
