Anyone make a stand alone tube tremolo unit mainly just the fender 6g12 circuit. Im well aware of the ReVibe unit but that unit is supposedly very noisy and I would prefer just a stand alone tube unit.
Im assuming this has been done before and am hoping for a schematic and layout if available.
This probably wouldnt be built for a while anyways, just some thing to think about.
Thanks

Matchless made a tube unit called a Vibrobox and schematics are available on the net.
I made one from the 6G4-a circuit. I just just put the unused triode as an initial gain stage with a gain trimmer after the coupling cap going into the circuit. Coming out of the 470k resistor junction you have rail voltage so I think I used a .01 cap to the output jack.
The advantage of that and the one you don't care for is that they run the modulation through the signal. Most amp versions wiggle the bias so it is much harder to get it into the right place in the signal for a standalone. sh

If you check Hoffman amps http://hoffman.com, there is an update to the circuit or layout that addresses the noise issues.RockinRocket wrote:Anyone make a stand alone tube tremolo unit mainly just the fender 6g12 circuit. For just standalone tremolo, I would still do the bias wiggle method, otherwise, and this is just personal opinion, you might as well go solid state.
The bias wiggle provides a bit of timbre modulation along with amplitude modulation.
You might be able to fake it using amplitude modulation into a slightly distorting stage. Maybe into an opamp with back to back clipping diodes with dissimilar diodes.
It's never too late to have a happy childhood.

People seem to like the 6G4-A circuit (2-1/2 12AX7's) rather than the earlier one (6G12 or 6G4) for the Fender pitch-shift vibrato. Here's a demo of a home-brew version that is pretty cool: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q6aua7sr ... plpp_video

Re: Stand alone tremolo unit
I built the Tore-Vibe (Weber kit) and it works great. Not noisy at all. The only mod I made was to tweak the reverb a little to cut down on the gain.
