VIOLATOR VERSION 2.O

Post by ESCOPUNK »

Ok, ive been slow with repair and mods, I have decided to finish with this extremely modified Ampeg VL502, I rack mounted this a while ago and added Mercury trannys plus extra switching. I made the clean channel more like a Fender and channel 2 now has a solo (controlled by the reverb foot switch). Sudo 3 channel amp now, each channel has its own master volume and presence controls, the switchable freq select is now a sweepable mid, I ditched the reverb circuit and added a tube FX loop with a mix pot. The distorted channel is modeled after a Krank Rev1 with all Mallory caps, The clean has all orange drop caps. I have some electro harmonix KT88s and 12AX7EH matched tubes on the way. And of course the bias is independently adjustable and has HV and output tube current meters on the front panel, You can put 6L6/KT66/5881/EL34/6550 or KT88s in this monster and adjust the Bias on the fly. Hope you guys like this.

Crap, error on the first gain stage, coupling cap should be on anode side of plate resistor!!!! and the cap between the anode and cathode is not supposed to be there, I had it there for a while to prevent radio interference but removed it later. This schematic is new, I have an entire folder of loose papers with scribble design notes

I fixed the preamp schematic :D

haha who did the plumbing on the kitchen sink? ;)

That's a buncha stuff, and I thought my projects were overboard! Looks cool!
Signatures have a 255 character limit that I could abuse, but I am not Cecil B. DeMille.

Looks cool!

That's alot of functionality. Looks like you're adopting the Randall Smith approach. :-)

I dig the 3D CAD work. Very nice.

That's a lot of knobs with no labels. :P

How's it sound?

The stealth version would go well with my Darth Vader outfit.
It needs a single slit visor grille
+ black-plate tubes of course.

Can we see inside the Death Star, or is it top secret?
I imagine all the components and wire are black, or kevlar right?

Best, tony

1. I will get some pics soon of the guts, Gotta figure out how to make the new mods look invisible and have them work correctly.

2.This has been running in one form or another for 2 years, I just cant stop myself from adding just about every little trick into this amp. This is just my personal amp and an example of what I can do. I do Repair and Mods as a side gig!

3. This was originally an Ampeg Lee Jackson VL502 that I have had lying around for years. The PCB's are easy to move gain stages around and modify, however there are X6 9pin preamps on the main board to play with. I am even thinking about flying the Pots off the PCB like the Mesa Rectifiers.

4.Not finished yet and the schematic may contain errors!

OK, here are some of the earlier build pics, The previous mods were worked out in the original chassis, I can swap between the rack and the Head chassis in about 2 hours. These pics are old, I will post new ones that complete the amp to what I had in mind. And them off to the studio to make a video to hear what it sounds like

Yeah!!!!! I like that, I should use all black wire, and maybe epoxy the boards black like the Dumbles!!!! Everyone does the classic style amps/clones, it takes a MAD MAN to do something like this, I'm a rack nerd anyway, how ever playing live. it takes a van to cart my rig, probably better of with a Fender twin!

Wait!!!! Dont encourage me, this could get out of hand quick! I could use one of these 2KV tubes!!!!

Last picture would be hilarious at the airport security check.

Imagine that just falling out of a bag.

I'm confussed? You rack mounted an 80's lee jackson mod'd Ampeg guitar head, then put it back in the head shell and took it out again. I'm lost. What did part of this did you make?

Could you do us a favor and downsize your avatar? It is huge!

I was trying to figure out what is what with this device.

I am stumped by this thing.

Is this a Flux Capacitor?
I've heard of them but never have I seen one.
