I can only speculate. I tightened them all, stuck the tube back in and I could hear my 4kHz test tone loud and clear.

Isnt there solid filled ribbon cable connectors?
I'd replace them with good wire

There are. It is not my preference either, but they all tested good. As ribbon cables go, the conductors are fairly hefty and widely spaced from each other and soldered in, so no connector issues.

I was tired of seeing this amp on my bench because my own projects are backing up, so I put it back together, tested it for a while and delivered it back to my buddy at his gig, where I got to do a little more testing for him. :D
