It's a real shame no one has every come up with a lighter substitute for a Leslie cab. The simulations blow. Only sim that came close was the Dynacord cls222.

But there's nothing like the full package with the tube amp and that swirling growl moving around the room.

I always played thru a Leslie 145 fed from the Slave out of my Boogie in to the Leslie preamp. It was an unreal tone but you really need the cab, the tube preamp and the spinning horn with the cheap driver or it doesnt work. I had it hanging out the back of my parents caddy and brought it to all my gigs. Keyboard player had a Melotron. Those were the days! We would do Kashmire and in court of the crimson king. Excellent for pink floyd too. I would blow up the horn all the time and it would sound like shit without the horn. A better driver didnt sound right either. I need to get one again but they are very difficult to capture correctly, in the room they are amazing.

I also have a CLS222 in my rig. One great sounding unit and sounds every bit as good as the real Leslie 147 that our Hammond B3 player brings to our gigs. We have put the B3 through the CLS222 and the 147. 7 people in the room could not tell the difference in a blind test.

I own 3 Leslies and a B3. In the '70s i hauled a 145 to almost every gig for guitar. I used to do a guitar synth w/a B3 patch thru a cls222 into two twins. Very convincing, and fun.

The price of the CLS222 keeps rising. Kinda like NOS tubes.

I have a full schematic and building one is not for the faint of heart. First, many of the parts are not available. It would be quite a scavenger hunt or redesign.
Second, the schematic is infinitely more involved than a typical guitar amp. One would have to make a serious PCB in order to build this thing.

It can be done, but it would be a ALOT of work.

The real beauty of the leslie is that no sound comes from the speaker to the ear. Everything bounces somewhere. It swirls the sound all over the room. Even miked they're not the same, on stage it's a thing of sheer beauty.

Yeah I saw pictures of the circuit board for the CLS 222 and there are a LOT of parts, many IC's, probably the bucket brigade type chips.

The Leslie is really pretty simple in operation, but the drum seems to be the critical component and hard to reproduce.

For example, I can get a block of styrofoam, but the foam they used in the later Leslie's is like a closed foam, since it is molded into the shape.

Or make one from thin plywood and just use angled baffles on it.

Nothing like a B3 and Leslie when that Leslie spins up.
But those old Leslie's with the horns on top with the huge cabinet are like a piece of furniture.
I know because a guy that played in a band I was in had a B3 and Leslie.
And we got to move it all the time...........

Funny thing is when I researched it before, it appeared as if Mr. Hammond and Mr. Leslie were bitter enemies, at least Hammond didn't like Leslie since he felt he was encroaching on his market.
Hammond was always changing the outputs of his organs just to cause problems for adapting Leslie's to them.

The Model 122 is the classic two speed 40 Watt tone cabinet most commonly used with Hammond console organs.

Model 145
Same technical spesifications as Leslie 147 but in a shorter cabinet.

Model 147
The Model 147 has the same cabinet, speaker and mechanical components as the Model 122; however, the amplifier input and motor speed control circuits are different. This is primarily because this series was designed to be "universal", which means it could be connected to other organ brands.
