My experience with octal's are bout the same, some are microphonic, some not so much,

This is very true. I went through about 2 doz Used and NOS 6sj7s that were ALL microphonic to some extent. I fnally settled on a new Sovtek reproduction (Metal cas not glass). I am sure you will have the same problems with the new production tubes. It's a pain finding "the one" that works. Same thing with the 6sl7. If you keep the gain down on the new Sovteks they seem to work a little better so I would recomend a 6sl7 in say a Boogie or Soldano circuit These are great sounding tubes and they are very fun to play with and offer a distinct sound over the 9 pins

I do know this, set up right, octal's are very touch sensitive to the Guitar, I have a great collection of octal tube's, if you need some and I have the # I'll donate some for this thread, I have a very large old tube collection, and what's sad I still have to buy a few here and there, You just never got all ya need !

Can you ever have enough tubes? Most of the sensitivity in my experience has to do a lot with the way the tube is used and the circuit it is in.
