Speaker/OT Interaction

Post by boots »

Anybody have any thoughts on whether the magnetic field from the OT (or the PT for that matter) can interact with the speaker coil in a combo amp?

It seems like in small combo amps, it is a pretty tight fit, and the OT and speaker coil can be in very close proximity to each other.

I wonder if that can account for any of the "weird oddnesses" or "mojo" that sometimes happen?

I'm putting together a cab now for a Champ clone, and trying to keep it as small a package as possible. Just wondering if I'm shooting myself in the foot by cramming everything into too tight a box?

I know it's been discussed and while I can't remember specifics I think the consensus was that the effect is negligible.

Ideally there should be a gap of at least an inch.

Don't let that smoke out!
