3rd gen, again

Post by sonicmojo »

Here's my latest build that just came to life. Considering my last build was also a 3rd gen some may think I am a bit nuts but I liked the first one I built so much that I went and did it again. Now I have 2 that I can mod and compare. This time is 100W plus Presence and Master controls. I finally got the correct 3rd gen FET working this time so I'm extra happy about that. I'm still experimenting with faceplates and this time went with cherry wood. I need to figure out a killer cabinet design for it and get different knobs-probably round and metal. Chassis was a blank.

It's a Trumblewreck! Very cool.

Yes, debating some ideas on the cab design. I expect the cherry to darken a lot over time. I've got a plan I think.

Homemade faceplates are a nemesis. This time I did the lettering with hi-def DIY silkscreen from EZScreenprint. The wood soaked it up nice and it doesn't scratch off when dry. Then multiple applications of Tru Oil over that to lock it all in.

So those are the screens?

Don't you love Tru Oil?

One of the best products every made.

Yes, they are thin plastic and you overlay them with a printed transparency sheet and expose to sunlight for one minute. Then rinse well in the dark and it sets like a negative. Like developing film but with no chemicals.

Tru Oil absolutely rules! Great for guitars too.

Here's the final amp. I finally got the better metal knobs in today. I went a little off the reservation with the cab design. But is my favorite amp now.

Great work Bryan (inside and out), looks like a creation for an exotic Italian car's instrument panel:

"Mojoguido Speciale '70s" 8) :)

All the best!

Really nice sonic
love wood cabs...metal screening is a nice touch
I agree with alvarezh...it has a definite instrument panel flair
reminds me of some older jaguar wood interior's
Congrats and well done...

I wanted to vent it and finding (non-custom) vents that are decent is tough. I considered a '68-'76 Corvette rear deck vent grille for the head but it was too expensive in chrome. It would actually fit okay and kind of work with the theme. I would have called the amp the "Stingray".

"Stingray Overdrive Beast"

Cool initials, although I think they could be more appropriate for a Heavy Metal type amp. :)

No, seriously, very nice work.

Enjoy it.

How does it sound?
any ringing or vibrations with the metal speaker grill?
