I borrowed a decent mic

Far better sound than my DIY-mics or my Audio Techinica Pro22

The Mic was Sennheiser MD441U3 about 3 inches from the grille cloth on the side of the cone. Reverb is from the amp. Delay added in Cubase.

cheers,

Thanks everyone, You are being too nice

Robert, it's non-HRM and I built it from Normsters bassman layout (on the files section). After that I've tried dozens of tweaks. I've been gotten great info and help from dogears, Normster, Bob-I, Keithrick and many more 8) . I've posted a picture from inside plus mainly all of the layout tweaks I've done so far + other info (please search with my name).

strat57: Here they are: My 'Julia' guitar (Schaller bridge-HB)-nonFET-volume 5-rock-bright ?-middle boost on(I have two settings on this one, it was the milder one)-midcapswitch 0.1-PAB on-deep of-treble 5-middle 8-bass 2-drive 4-drivevolume 10-master 1-presence 5-reverb 10. My plate voltages are pretty much right on where dogears has suggested them to be. The gain increament at about 2:00 is with guitar volume pot. My DIY speaker cab has one Weber 1265 and Eminence red white and blues. Weber was disconnected. When I have nailed the noise bug, I'll post full report of the amp + cab.

Normster, You know without Your so nice layout I might would have never built my clone, Thank You 8)

Robert, Thanks for Your compliment :D

I still have to nail the noisebug when the OD is engaged + some cleaning of the wires.......... + have to try some further tweaks suggested in the forum

I can only hope my soon to be finished HRM build sounds that good! FAT with harmonics and sustain...

Did you actually use a Bassman PT, OT and 6l6 tubes?
thanks,

Audiotechnica Pro22: http://media.putfile.com/AudioTechnicaPro22

Sennheiser MD441U3: http://media.putfile.com/Sennheiser

Both mics (taped them together): http://media.putfile.com/footprints-92

I like the smoothness and richness of the Sennheiser. I borrowed also Shure Beta 57A. Will record something with that also.. I know that the Shure57 is very good with these, but would like to know others favourite mics also. Anyone ?

cheers,

Mat,

I use a shure SM57 to post clips because it's considered to be a standard of reference. I normally use an Audix i5 at gigs. Built like a tank and sounds great. Reasonably priced also. Seems a bit fuller to me and less hyped in the upper mids. There is also a big difference between what I would use to mic live vs. at home or in studio. Many engineers use a combination of dynamic mics and condensers or ribbon mics.
Check this out: http://mixonline.com/sod/guitar_recordi ... index.html

P.S. Forgot to mention in my previous post how much I dug the playing as well :)

Nice playing and very nice tone.

I was reading your other posts.

Did you replace the capactors and resistors to Vishay Dale RN65 metal film resistors and PS series Orange Drops or XICON MPP and PP ?

Do you have any final photos and final schematics available ?

Regards

Hi hipbluescat,

Yes I changed the OD715's to PS series Orange Drops and used also the Vishay Dale RN65 metal film resistors. No final photos, layout yet, but will post them after nailing the OD section noise problem.

Mat

Where did you buy the PS series Orange Drops and the Vishay Dale RN65 metal film resistors ?

Did you use the resistors in every part of the circuit ?

How did the tone change ?
