I have listened to most of the audio clips that are posted and as the shivers stopped running up and down my spine I wondered just how well a build off of one of the schematics would work when used as a rhythm amp as well as strictly a lead amp. Seems there are not a lot of audio clips showing these amps in this light. Not only that how well would using one of these amps as a metal amp fair? Do they dirty up enough to get a mid 80's heavy metal or even thrash metal levels of gain? I am really not concerned about overall volume in a band context as that is what we all use PA systems for nowadays.
I do play metal and even more I play black/death metal. I cannot stand any of the modern metal levels of gain as they all sound like you stuck your head in a wasp nest. I completely dig the earlier levels of gain that were obtained in the center 1/3 of the 80's and even some earlier then that. I am looking for an amp that will literally peel the paint fromt he walls and the skin off the faces of listeners(in jest only please). The audio clips of these amps on this site and one or two others I have heard are the only ones that can do this in a lead frame of mind. My question lies in how well do they stand up as a rhythm amp seeing that is where my a good deal of my playing style is.
