6K6 Rocket alive and well.

Post by loctal »

I just finished a 6K6 rocket for my friend in England. It sounds very good. The voltage on the plates is right where the RCA handbook recommends. The chassis started out as an Alessandro Begal but, after hearing a rocket, I lost interest in the project. I had to cover the two octal holes with a plate and make room for the three 12AX7s. I used tektronix ceramic stand offs for the circuit board and this allowed fitting the rocket into a 12 by 8 inch chassis. I am pleased with the results so far. The phase inverter uses 820 ohm and 10K ohm resistors to drive the output tubes. Right now the amp is out on loan for evaluation. The heater strand runs parallel with the preamp tubes and does not add hum to the amp. This amp is very quiet.

Now that is the way to build an amp using what you have on hand and making it look good and serviceable. Great job! :)

VERY cool. Love the suspended "circuit board".
It's all about the tone!

Very cool old school construction.

What is the large wire wound pot for?

Thanks for the kind comments.

The large pot is a 500 ohm adjustable resistor. In case you want to try different output tubes. The power supply is good for over 150mA. Too bad the output tubes are so close because I have a couple of pairs of English KT-66s that I would love to hear. All the wire is silver strand Teflon encluding the filaments. The output transformer is a 10K Merit with taps between 2 ohm to 500 ohm. I am looking into getting some sound clips.

Very clever with the radial cap on the cat by-pass. First time I have ever seen that one. I am always looking for a way to use radials......the price difference can be HUGE....... I need to ask that question on my own.
At any rate......very nice looking craftsmanship to me.

Is it done?
One of the 1M resistors in the LTP PI looks like it needs to be moved over a bit.

Thanks, for the note. I used a jumper wire to connect that part of the circut. It is on the other side of the ceramic stand off and can not be seen from the photo.
