Re: DLM (reprise)
I know Joe is a ham radio guy, so maybe we can get in touch with him that way. His call sign is WB6ACU.

Re: DLM (reprise)
so i went and rebuilt the eq section of my se el34 express ish thing. 250k treble, 500k bass, 25k mid and kept the same 500pf 22n 22n cpa but changed the slope resistor from 100k to 50k. the new pots and 50k slope resistor make it way nicer sounding, much warmer and fuller sounding. I also put a ground lift switch from the mid pot to defeat the eq. good sounding circuit even with out the eq. makes a great boost switch. the amp sounds much more natural now. i can see why the slope knob was on the DLM now. I actualy would like it better if it was variable.
Re: DLM (reprise)
I have an Express chassis from rjguitar not being used so I picked up some SE iron from Triode received yesterday and going to wire the pots like an 18w plexi I have.
The Slope will just be a mid pot instead but will have presence and MV.
Going to use two 12AX7, one EL34 and a GZ34.
Not sure how all this is going to sound but I am having fun going over schematic ideas people have posted and working on my board layout last night. I am not very good with visio or other software for drawing though

Re: DLM (reprise)
cant wait to hear results!
Re: DLM (reprise)
I have to change the OT primary from 8k to 5k, I should have known to use the 5k in the first place for 15w version.
I also need to figure out if I want open loop or closed loop.
The amp works but I need to do some figuring out of things.
Running low and hi input like the DLM picture shows.
Will post pictures later

Cant wait to hear it! I just gigged my 5 watt again and it was superb. Out door event no micing and it was just the right amount of loud for the block party. I tried my 2 el84 amp first but it was to loud by far. Are trainwreck style amps louder because of the intense frequency they develope? I know they have way more high end than most amps it seems.

I've always felt the harmonic content *sounds* louder than it is. The best amps I've ever played always sounded louder than their wattage.zambo wrote:Cant wait to hear it! Plus TW amps have oversized transformers, which means they provide every ounce of push when needed...that also contributes to our perception of "loud".
I'm sure the engineer types here have some thoughts on this as well.

I guess so! My 10 watt SE DLM wanna be amp stomps all over my friends 50 watt pp amp. The 50 gets louder on the clean side though.

Get a proper sound meter in front of them, and I bet they aren't that far apart. It's all about perception.zambo wrote:I guess so! My 10 watt SE DLM wanna be amp stomps all over my friends 50 watt pp amp. The 50 gets louder on the clean side though.

Still working on this when I can had a wedding last weekend for niece and we have our son's wedding this Saturday. Whew need a break! LOL
I still need to figure some things out tone wise and with/without presence.

Re: DLM (reprise)
Thanks Mark yeah I do need a faceplate but I would have to carefully measure for that extra pot hole I drilled. I spaced it the same as the tonestack pot holes.
The chassis has an engraved faceplate meaning the controls are are all labeled and have markings around each knob. Same with the back.

Re: DLM (reprise)
1 1/8th is the standard pot spacing that would put it @ 9.75"
