What would you build with this PT? I am not as familiar with the many amp designs out there so just wondering...tia

We need to know how many ma's of current to adequately answer that question, please.

Using a 5Y3GT you may get 245v on plates
using a 5V4, you may get 266 on plates
Using a GZ34, you may get around 288v on plates
Using a Solid State rectifier you may get around 300v on plates.

However, until we know what the current ma is, it is difficult to advise whether you can use a push/pull designa and what power tubes to suggest. IF there is plenty of current available, you could do a push pull amp with 6BM8's , 6AQ5's .......... or EL84's or 6V6's.

And what kind of music do you enjoy playing? That would allow us to know what to advise considering.

Sorry, the PT is a heyboer with 150ma supply rating. I have pp EL84 amp I really like now (330 for plates). Building an express 4 gain amp now using pacific iron. Also have a SE el34/6v6 that I like a lot.

I play reggae rock.

I have a pair of el34s or jj6v6-s I could use but I was thinking 300V on the plates would be low for these tubes? I do have a 5Y3 (real one)...

Every amp I have installed a VVR (variable voltage regulator) on, I have discovered that I like the amp tone best with lower voltages on the power tubes then I would have had without the VVR.

Having said that, I personally would not hesitate to build an amp with 300v on 6V6's or EL34's.

IF you like sort of a chimey tone for reggae/rock, then I would suggest considering a HoSo56 developed by Geezer on the Hoffman Forum. There are editable ExpressSCH schematics and layouts here:

You could build a 6V6 version easily that I think would sound great. Very touch sensitive amp. Or if you are primarily playing at home, build a 6BM8 version for about 9 watts.

You'd need to change the dropping resistors in the B+. I listed some values that I might personally experiment with 1st.

I would use that PT with FW SS rectification and 1 or 2 x EL84s or 1 or 2 x 6K6s or 1 or 2 x 6F6s etc, or even 1 or 2 x 6V6s if the current was running high enough. Or use it to build a stand alone reverb unit or revibe (with FW SS rectification),

(or one of these: http://www.solorb.com/elect/musiccirc/liquidator1/ - if you happened to also have a saturable reactor lying around)

I would build a 2 el84 push pull class a rocket. The info is on Aiken's web page

250V is class A ceiling for EL84's. Using a vvr on one of my 2 x el84 amps, i found 250V pretty darn sweet.
Or as tubeswell said before i could get it in..use a FW rec, will give you basically double that primary voltage, depending on what tubes you run.
Ive ran 6L6's without too much heat from a 150ma PT.
