Hum and oscillations on stage?

Post by Darkbluemurder »

Hi guys,

When I last gigged with my band I had a weird experience. While the clean tone was noise free, the lead tone had a high pitched flurring noise (mixture of hum and oscillation). This was apparent in both the amp's overdrive channel (DOS style) and also with the overdrive pedal. The only thing that helped was to reduce the brightness and the overdrive - which was not really what I wanted for my sound.

Next day I tried the exact same settings in my home - no noise.

Could it be the stage environment of the band? We use a big PA (3 power amps, one effect rack, a 24 channel mixing console) and a light system as well.

Has anyone else experienced this and if so what did you do about it? Would a power conditioner help?

Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks a lot and happy new year

I'm no expert but i would think it could be anything, the dimmer switch in my room causes unwanted noise when its on. Have you tried turning things off and seeing how it affects the noise?

Not sure, but you might want to bring one of those "outlet checkers" with you to verify everything is wired correctly up to the outlet, and also to verify that the ground is good.
