5Y3 in Herzog Clone?

Post by The New Steve H »

I'm building a Herzog clone. I figured I might as well set it up so I can use it as a 5w Champ-type amp. The original Herzog has diodes in the rectifier. I decided to go with a 5Y3 tube. I figured it couldn't hurt, and it might improve the sound when I use the amp with a speaker. Thoughts? Is a 5w amp big enough to make a tube rectifier sag?
Relax. It's SUPPOSED to smoke a little.

Yes, but ... it's Class A so it's "pre-sagged." The current doesn't change much. Tube rectifiers, though, don't add any switching noise.

Maybe I'll stick it in there just because tubes look cool. I found an NOS 5y3 on Ebay for $13 shipped, so off I go.
