Piher, Beyschlag Resistors
Recently I bought some 68K Piher 1W from an EBay guy in Italy for my 183 type build. Haven't tried one yet but they look kosher.
This morning I got an e-mail from him offering a huge list of these resistors along with a few Iskra, see below. I know HAD used Piher & Beyschlag in some of his builds and they are de rigeur in vintage correct Marshalls. There are lots of Dumbley values here.
Which Dumbles did HAD use these in? And would they possibly add anything to a 183 build in spots other than that 68K 1W?

From what I've seen most 2nd and 3rd Gen's have Piher as the carbon film type, the early version (fat body-pre 69') 2% 1/2 watt type and 2W. Occasionally he sneeked in a Piher 3W (#40 NFB comes to mind)as well. The early version 2% 1/2W Pihers are the most cherished and it's found in early Marshalls as well. I've seen very few red Beyschlags in Dumbles.
FYI, it's 2W Piher on #183's V2 grid.
FWIW, the Dumble Beyschlags to have are the Sprague Q lines.
If I ge a chance tonight I will post pics of the different versions of Piher and Beyschlags from 1/4W through 3W.

Thanx Tonemerc. I thought the 68K on V2 of #183 was 1W, not 2W. But I see you are right. Well, 1W is better than 1/2W.
So I have no idea how old these Pihers are. Are there significant tonal differences or is it more a matter of being period correct?
Here is a pic of the 68K 1W Pihers I got from this guy. They are 1/4" diameter, 5/8" long and each lead is 1 1/4" long.

Nice!
Wouldn't it be wonderful to have a huge toy box full of every type and brand of vintage components?
It seems the more digital we get, the fewer parts that are being made that actually take audio into consideration for their design.

All new passive parts for audio seem to be for the hi fi crowd. That's because they're not skinflints like most MI amp folks seem to be. I wish there were more exceptions like Sozo around, for instance.
You can still get nearly all the old parts, just takes a wad of $$$. The incidence of unobtainum increases each year though.

Here's a few vintage parts
Caps: Phillips Mustards, Radiospares & Lemco silver mica, Lemco ceramics
Mallory PVCs and various Sprague 220, 225 & 6PS
Resistors: Piher, mostly red a few tan Beyschlag and a few Iskras
Piher: .25W, .5W, 1W&2W and an older 2W & 3W.
Beyschlag: tan .5w, beige .7W and 1W
Vintage parts for a transitional Blackflag JTM50: Mustards, Piher, Morganite CC, Hunts, Erie & Phillips caps
Lee fuse holder, Bulgin Mains connector
It needs about 6 Iskras for it to be correct, but I'm using all Pihers as I refuse to pay the. price for period correct Iskras.

David that's a gloss finish smaller body 2W, the 68k in #183 and the one I used is the matte finish smaller 2W. Pihers can be tricky to identify as they can have different body sizes and finish gloss. I have Piher .5's with three different body sizes. Tonemerc, that's interesting as they were sold to me as 1W. Is there any tonal difference? Probably nothing significant?
