Electone
A friend just brought this over to my shop. The Electone lap slide sounds great through my 15 watt Rocket.
The Electone amp, with 50 or 60 year old caps and other innards, just hummed loudly when turned on (couldn't resist), so we quickly shut it off until further inspection.
Anyone know any thing about this handsome little set up?

Re: Electone
I'd keep it away from kids doing potty training..
I'd replace all of the caps (can cap and any wax/paper caps) and would measure every resistor for spec. Those dogbone resistors are supposedly notorious for failing, but I've used hundreds without having one fail..

Looks like '47 date codes. Looks great except for the tacky kitchen drawer carry handle. Love the MOTS!

Three wire grounded power cord.
With well-prepped, rust-free chassis connection.
My that's a rare mint green subspecies of MOTS.
Reminds me of a nice Diner somewhere.

Heavens, an unused PI input !
Re: Electone
Someone's been in there up to no good. Lose the wire nuts in favor of something more appropriate like a terminal strip or just splice and heat shrink. I don't know that the last person was thinking, replacing those wires and leaving the old caps. Very strange.
I'd wire brush the rust and see if I could get some off in an attempt to keep it from spreading. I don't think I'd go too far with it, though. Try to leave things in original condition where circumstances permit it.
Very nice piece!

Re: Electone
I agree with the wirenuts. The red pvc wire is obviously later.
I wouldn't touch the rust on the transformer, other than brushing off anything that is just hanging there. I wouldn't take a wirebrush to it, that ain't necessarily a problem, might be, might be not. I'd err on the conservative side, and I'm a Democrat!

looks alot like a lockola down to the handle
anything worth doing, is worth doing right
Re: Electone
Re: rust. I've had a lot of luck over the years with Rustoleum Rust Reformer. Just brush it on (if there's loose rust, you have to knock it off) and it dries dark, water resistant and non-reactive.
Re: Electone
Agreed. I was thinking of a toothbrush sized wire brush, like you said, to remove what's loose or ready to come loose. I wasn't clear. Thanks.David Root wrote:...other than brushing off anything that is just hanging there. I wouldn't take a wirebrush to it...
I like Firestorm's suggestion about Rust Reformer.
