Best Neutral RTV Goop?

What do you all use? I need something to hold some heavy caps in place.

GE Silicon sealer and household glue is excellent. Home Depot has it in clear or white. I also use (don't laugh) Liquid Nails. They sell a toothpaste sized tube of clear Liquid Nails that is seriously strong shit.

Thank you very much! I take it the Liquid Nails should not touch anything but the caps?

If you use caulking be sure it doesn't contain acetic acid.

Tom that's why I put the word "neutral", meaning not acidic, in my subject line. I did read that thread, pretty scary stuff.

Also avoid latex based, as it does have water/moisture content that can migrate. The current GE silicones (The one I have here is labeled Premium Waterproof Silicone window, door, attic, basement) is pretty goods, no outgassing and holds things solid.

David,

I work for a very high tech company, may I suggest Momentive Adhesive (Formerly GE) RTV 5818 which we use it for all of our pcb applications.

It's not cheap though...

Hey John,

I'm familiar with "high tech" - I might even work for one myself.

What makes a company "very high tech"? :?

Ha good one Zippy, you got me on semantics here.

How about an industry leading medical diagnostic equipment company? At least it sounds "very" high tech....

On a recent rebuild I used black automotive weatherstripping adhesive.

John, that is an interesting spec on that 5818. Marine grade, even. In a 300ml container I'm afraid that most of it would set up before I used it all.

At $17 in Canada that is 8x any caulk I've used before, but to be fair that was el cheepo bathroom caulk.

If I could get something close in a smaller tube that would be better.

Crap. I've been using DAP 100% Silicone that 'has' acetic acid, or gives it off as it cures. I just assumed it was okay because it was 100%. Looks like the stuff Fuch recommend has it too though...

More specifically, I've been using a dollop on the bottom of radial electrolytics to secure them down to a garolite turret board. Does anyone think the silicone touching the leads will actually corrode them?
