Maybe it's time for a moratorium on threads -- or posts, for that matter -- that contain anything except technical questions or information. Y'know, see if it cancels out some of the noise...

Re: Is it just me...
I don't recall ever claiming that my amp sounded better then any of yours did?
I'm really sorry that things that confuse you are very terrifying but there's nothing I can do about that is there?
I don't recall going into build threads and saying that they were doing it wrong and I was doing it right?
Can you point to where I said that my choices were better then yours or any of the other builds on this site?
Unfortunately, just because someone's opinion differs from yours doesn't make them a troll.
You came into my thread where I documented my progress in figuring this stuff out and attacked me.
Now I'm a troll because I asked you to clarify your statements?
Again, I'm not here to stir up trouble. I've made very few posts outside of my thread and except for the ones where Chris and I are taking pot shots at each other I've been very civil unless provoked. Chris and I know each other and I'm very carefully to address him and only him in my comments and nobody else.
Please, tell me what I've done to offend you? If you can't meet that request with some civility I fail to see how I'm the one stirring the pot.
First, you have no idea how much I spent on my parts, how long it took me to source them, or where I got them from.
A lot of you take pleasuring in obtaining the items that HAD used. I find it fun to track down parts I think are interesting. I can't see how this would bother so much but I'll apologize that my methods are so offensive.
Too much time? Rudimentary understanding of electronics? Again, I don't see how the first is any concern of yours...
However, let's make one thing clear...that second statement is a personal attack. If you can't back it up with anything short of rude jokes I don't really see why I have to be civil to you at all.
I didn't start this Cliff, if you see something that you think is oh so contrary to your understanding of circuits I'd be happy to have a discussion with you about it.
I think it's very obvious that there's only one hostile party in this conversation.

Only thing I really have to comment on after reading your ODS thread is you shouldn't be so hostile towards others criticisms when it comes to your build. This is the kind of criticism that I appreciate from others around here as opposed to sugar coating the truth. There's a scary amount of knowledge around here and it's good to hear from others who know more than you.
Since we don't know you or how well you can cobble together an amp (trust me, we see lots of cobbled messes, I've made my fair share..) don't get offended when we warn you about downfalls in your design. Take it for what it's worth, counter it or ignore it. Just don't take it personally, a lot of threads go downhill quickly when people take things too personally..

EricI am and will always be a newbie in the sense that I'm confident that there will always be those here who know far more that I do.
If it's any consolation I don't consider you a newbie!!.. Far from it.. Sure there is always going to be someone out there that knows a few things you don't.. Big Whoop!!..Ignore the irritants keep learning and posting!!.

I build slowly, get stuck, ask questions and I'm always grateful for the feedback.
If no one answers my question I take it as a sign that I should do more research or come up with a better problem.
I'm not really confident enough to offer technical assistance so I try and give back with threads which illustrate my learning process as a means of helping others who are on the same level.
Many here have been on the forum for quite a while and I think it's natural to loose sight of what's it's like to be a new comer to the world of tube amps. We see the posts of wanting the Fender to become a Marshall with a Dumble channel while maintaining the reverb and vibrato. I think the community is very kind to these beginners. If anyone ever gets offended by someone suggesting that they do more research, that is their problem.
Truthfully, I have become weary of the pissing and moaning over the SSS. As if an amp could make you a SVR or a wealthy amp builder.
I also find the snotty "my capacitor is bigger than yours" and "my high and low impedance lines never cross" attitude of some irritating but I also find that the posturing on this forum to be far less than anywhere else.
These small irritants aside let us not forget that the information, technical support, enthusiasm and general goodwill of this forum is unparallelled.
Peace
Eric

Keeping it civil and on-topic is sometimes a challenge, but overall the S/N ratio here is about 20dB higher than some other places I could name!
I have a D-kit coming in the near future and I'll be methodical and thorough in my build. I'll also use the forum search to the max, but I do have one observation. As I didn't receive a "comprehensive" schooling in guitar amps, there are some things I know I want to be well informed about ("dressing" the wiring for one example) before I do it. If there isn't the info I need after a few common sense searches, then I'll ask. If I get flamed for asking "a stupid or redundant question", so be it. I wear big boy pants, so I'll deal with it.
Chances are, even moderarely experienced builders find little things that they'd never considered before that might impact the quality of a build. The resources are here (or there) and I'm grateful for them, but I wasnt to build the best quality amp as possible. I don't just want it to be functional, I want it to be exceptional. That is my personality...
I might use the resources, but I will not post very often if I find "drama'. I divorced drama about 10-15 yeras ago and I'm over that, even on the web. From everything I've seen, this seems like a pretty good community. These is some "history", but that's life. I just hope I can contribute to the technical side of things (in the future) and not to the drama.
Cheers.

Wow, small world. I live near the college and hospital in South Stuart. If you've been around the area, you'll probably know my neck of the woods.
I play lead in a REALLY fast growing local contemporary church, and have been active in the bands of a few churches around here for more than 10 years. If the fam takes in such fare, I might have run into them...
So cool...
Re: Is it just me...
Hi Kevster and welcome to the forum.
Sounds like you have a lot of experience under your belt.
Coming from a military background will most likely compel you to build very good circuits.
Funny how we can have a lot of knowledge in different areas of electronics but when we delve into archaic components such as vacuum tubes it is a vastly unfamiliar field.
There are things that just don't seem right or logical but they work well with tubes.
And guitar amps are very different from audio tube amps because with the guitar amps we encourage "good" distortion.
You came to the right place to share tube knowledge.
If you are interested in Dumble amps you really came to the right place.
Check the files section there is a wealth of info there.
Probably the best place to learn "lead dress" in these amps is to look at the photos of actual Dumble amps and the better built clones to see how the wires are arranged.
Some defy normal build practices such as the cathode and plate wires on V2.
I'm sure you will develop your own technique when it comes to your build but it's nice to see how the pros do it.
I recommend you create a data base of photos, schematics, layouts, etc.
It will help you get a better grasp on this unique style of amplifiers.
What kit do you have coming, if I may ask?

Re: Is it just me...
Thanks very much for the welcome!!!
I'm going to do a Ceriatone OTS FM50 with Modern Eagle mods and the Ceriatone Dumblator. I'm getting domestic trannies, tubes, and a cab. I'm doing it as a head because I want to isolate the speaker with my amp in the open (air flow and access).
I know people are have varying opinions of the guy, the company, and his past involvement here; but I'd like to stay clear of any of that. I've never ordered from Ceriatone and have heard far more good than bad from a user perspective. This'll be my first purchase from him, but any future builds will probably be from scratch.
BTW, this place has the best and most comprehensive info I've found anywhere....
Thanks again for the welcome.

I second all the appeals for civility.
A minor amount of reading before posting reveals the depth
of knowledge and experience on this forum, which has already been
posted and archived.
The respect and courtesy that is due these people is huge.
I read much, and have posted infrequently, having found all the answers
I needed were already here. As Tom says, a little research is all it takes.
And then, just think a moment before hitting Submit. Many pointless
disagreements will stop in their tracks.
This is a great forum.
Keep aiming high everyone.

Re: Is it just me...
For me the peak time in this forum was around 07-08.. Virtually every topic on every circuit in the ODS skyliner had been discussed analyzed and cracked open..Then discussed again even deeper!!.. Everything you ever want to know about the ODS is buried here somewhere..Along with all sorts of MIND BLOWING tid bits of very cool info pertaining to tube amps in general.. Every time I hit the search function here I learn something new..Happy digging..

I have gained a huge amount of knowledge that, as far as I can tell is not available any where else on the net. I have built a D style amp that simply would not have been possible with out the free sharing of schematics and experience from this site.
I stress the word 'free' no one has to give up anything yet look at this site
it's crammed with everything you could want and more.
So I have one big thing to say to all contributors.
THANK YOU!

I dunno. I'm still new here; have been lurking for some time.
I've seen some very distasteful things. People being extremely uncivil to each other. This has happened even in this thread. Very odd behavior sometimes.
And what seems like a complete thread has just disappeared - the Ceriatone discontinuing kits thread is just gone. It was active just a few days ago - now it's nowhere to be found. Deleted? Moved? In most forums if the mods didn't like something like this they might lock it, but completely deleting it? No. What else has just disappeared?

It's a bunch of guys sharing opinions over the internet. We aren't always going to agree, be polite or be in a great mood. Some people get offended when you put things bluntly, others take it fine. I've had my share of opinions that didn't sit well with others and heck, I like to mess with people on occasion, but I'm still here because these little squibbles are so few and far between.
With that said, you Dumble guys do like to get your panties in a wad over bs. Seems like things stay a lot more civilized on the Technical and Trainwreck side of the forums.. This is why I like the Dumble forum though, you guys are pretty easy to set off sometimes. I'm a middle child so it's in my blood to instigate.
