Silvertone 1484

I mounted the JJ can on the exterior with a mounting ring.

Replaced all electrolytic caps and a few drifted resistors.

The reverb was real springy sounding and was not a natural sounding reverb at all.
But maybe Dick Dale would have appreciated it.

A guy from New York sent it to me in Oregon to fix.
He just didn't have any resources there, he lived on an island up north.

I tried talking him out of it.
Cost him about $250 for me to go through it.

This Silvertone amp, along with many of its smaller brothers like the 1481 and 1482 were built by Danelectro for Sears back in the 60's.

nice room, cool amps and axes, love the yellow wall

I recognized the 6L6's right away
first drew me to it...after they tested pretty good...I said mmmmm
and looking closer I agree the work was done well
lots of leads are twisted uniformly and/or have a small tube shielding
Wont be doing much modding to this I have a few pedals to try with it
cool you have the 2x12 cab what speakers you running are they stock?
do these run current tubes well?

Thanks for the compliments. The original speakers were Jensen CN12. My cab came without speakers, currently there are some old MojoTone (eminence) ALNICO 12" in there. The cabs get busted up because the baffle is made of 3/8 Masonite and the sides particle Board.

I did play with other tubes but I always came back to the stock stuff.

BTW these amps aren't as loud as you'd expect. I think it has to do with the size of the OT.

I'm very jealous. I once owned one of these - it was f'ing glorious, one of the best sounding amps I ever came across - something about that Masonite baffle. IIRC mine had 2 black lightweight Jensens, probably C10Rs, if they were actually C12Ns that will really ignite the regret. Yes, the reverb is dinky and I'd ignore it, there's nothing to mess with, nothing to mod or improve here, just avoid it. Get it all running 100% and you'll agree it's got tone for miles.

It would be a high crime to do anything to other than a complete recap of all the electrolytics even the bipass caps, a check of the voltages, bias, and a 3 prong cord. Hopefully you can get a 1" can cap from AES that is a direct drop in, I was able to for mine, but that was long ago. If not this is the only part I might mod to punch a bigger hole.

I think I may have found a replacement can cap
going through it and making a list of "drifted"parts
I'm sure the guy from NY appreciated finding someone to restore his "not Fender or Marshall"vintage amp.

I have a TT Alnico and a Jensen I'll try it wit... when testing I ran it through a EV12L
At first sight I thought wow what a small PT for 6L6's
then I found it was the OT...it is small

This is my first real "vintage" amp I will keep it as close to that as possible
going to spend a little time with maintenance,cleaning and then get
her in the room with the others to play.
