my first build. It works beautifully, here are pics! C&C

Post by Joost »

Well, I finished my very first build. I really liked the whole process from working out the BOM to designing the chassis, doing the build, and making it look nice.

As for the name. I had a good chuckle about is with a friend once, who was also having a Two Rock copy built, so I thought it'd be an appropriate name for a Dumble copy (with a bit of Two Rock thrown in). It's basically Dumble 124 with a bit of TR CRS1 and some of my own tweaks and changes.

She sounds really beautiful. Dead silent too, even with the master all the way up! All the plate values are like dead-on except for the phase inverter which doesn't have the 10v difference between the two sides.

THANK YOU SO MUCH EVERYONE FOR YOUR HELP! WITHOUT YOUR PATIENCE IT WOULDN'T HAVE COME TOGETHER!

The plate values:
V1 pin 1: 191V
V1 pin 6: 189V
V2 pin 1: 198V
V2 pin 6: 200V
V3 pin 1: 291V
V3 pin 6: 291V
Plates on V4-V7: 440V

Please let me know what you think

Looks pretty good.

The silk screen looks real nice.

What do you do use for biasing it?

No Dumbleator parts yet?
Tom

Don't let that smoke out!

You did a fantastic job! Very impressive first build.
Which Mercury Mag transformers did you use?
What power tubes are you using?

Great work by the way

Excellent! Amazing for a first build. How long did it take you?

You could move your V2b plate wire and both V2 cathode wires together so they touch each other for about an inch or so. Check out some pictures of other builds. It supposedly aids the OD. I've noticed it smooths the OD a bit.

Sweet build! Beautiful chassis!

Is that an EMI filter in the IEC socket? Does it curb both common and differential mode noise?

Thanks for the kind words everyone!

@CHIP, thank you I will try that!

@David Root, it took me 6-7 weeks from starting the bill of materials to designing the chassis, working in the differerent tweaks, to building the amp, all in my spare time ofcourse

@turbo5speed. *hahaha* thanks. I designed the chassis myself, designed the graphics and found people to cut it for me and help me with the bending, welding, powdercoating and silkscreening. So it's my own production. I found a guy who could feed my chassis drawing straight into his water jet cutter. He also knew someone who could bend and weld. I found a company in The Hague that could to digital silkscreening. So the price was very acceptable (15 euros per plate).

@CHIP Thanks! EQ1 and EQ2 are very close to the rock/jazz switch on a dumble. I used the Mercury Magnetics Tone Clone FBFTP/MT power transformer, the Tone Clone Plus FTW-100-O Output Transformer and FC Twin choke. So the power transformer is a MM clone of a Fender Blackface PT and the OT is a MM clone of a 70s fender silverface twin 100W OT. The power tubes are a matched quad of Winged =C= Svetlana's

@structo, no I wanted to make sure this part was working before I added the dumbleator. Now I gotta figure out where to put it. I have several ideas. Then lay it out and get going! As for the biasing, I use a 1 ohm resistor, but I haven't mounted it permanently.

@jborders5, well that'll come....eventually, still have to finish the built-in dumbleator and headshell.

BTW IF ANYONE HAS ANY MORE LEAD DRESS SUGGESTIONS LIKE THE ONE CHIP HAD, I'D LOVE TO HEAR IT!

Thank you! Depends on which one you choose. They can filter both common mode and differential mode noise. Here is the spec sheet.

Great looking build! 8)

Did you provide the company with the plates? Would you mind sharing the name of the company? 15 euros sounds more than reasonable :D

Peace,

Markus

Thanks. Sure. Yes I supplied them with the two faceplates, powder coated, and with a PDF of my design. Here is their website http://www.reprovandekamp.nl/
The price was ex VAT
