Some may have seen a certain thread that has gotten a bit out of whack recently. During the coarse of the thread, it was mentioned that I might do some reading about basic tube amp theory and went on to say there's a "sticky" with a wealth of information.
Well you see, I did look over this site a while back for such a sticky and couln't find anything. Well today I decided to look in the one place I didn't think to look or it would be based on the sub heading of this particular site area. Futhermore, I usually stay out of these parts of internet forums because they're usually pointless and lead to nothing good. IMO.
Holy crap this should be stickied to every forum but that one. There's a tone of links with great information here.
So without further ado, my suggestion would be to move this sticky to at least the "Technical Discussion" area. Below is a link to the sticky I'm speaking about....Thanks

This website is full of very good information.
Unfortunately it is not like the Gear Page or other popular forums in that it is not setup or formatted like some other forums are.
The owner has a real job as well as the moderators so it may not be as streamlined or formatted as well as it could be.
I don't mean anything by that, it's just the way it is.
You just need to work a little harder to find things.
You are lucky that the Dumble files section is how it is now.
Previously the information, schematics and layouts were scattered all over the place and you really had to hunt for the stuff.
The Amp Garage is a little more primitive in the way it is organized but this place by far has the smartest tube guys on the web.
And if you act maturely and with good manners many of them will be more than willing to lend a helping hand with a problem or design you have.
Take a moment to introduce yourself to the forum and a little about your background so we know your level of knowledge and also put your location in your profile so we can recommend places to buy parts that may or may not be local to you.
Just trying to help.

I did look rather hard. I just never expected to find that thread in the forum area with this desciption. That's all.Structo wrote:You just need to work a little harder to find things.

Non-tube amp discussion to discuss music, girls, life, etc.

Hello my name is Todd and I am an ampaholic
Hello Todd ( crowd )
I've been using amps ever since high school and my wife says I really need to quit or something bad will happen.
Before I started using amps I was such a normal person, now all I care about is where I get my next valve.
No seriously
I have been around here lurking for a while and have posted a few times myself. I hadn't introduced myself as Structo suggested so I thought what better time than now!
I am 33 yrs old. Went to Heald College and got A.A.S degree in computer and electronic technology right out of high school ( 1996 ).
Went on to be an Electrician ( commercial, Industrial ) for a few years then life happened and I got another job as a Fire alarm system technician. Did that for 10 years then just last year became a building Engineer ( Mechanic ) in a 9 story building.
I have been playing guitar on and off since I was 12 and was trying to piece together my perfect rig when I ran into the Dumble story and then found C-tone.
Built the OTS FM50 as my first kit a few months back and really just painted by numbers but also tried to learn as much as possible during that build. That kit turned out really well!
OK so I got a little addicted!
I since have built 1 more kit ( 2550 ) just last week
Took 3 days to build after getting home from 10hr days at work.
It turned out really good as well! Just went way too fast
Although I have built 2 amps already and have a pretty vast knowledge of electronics, I do not know all the terms ( snubber, bleed resistor, you name it! ) This is why I continue to lurk and ask questions when possible.
I eventually want to go the ambitious route and source parts myself for a nice build but have a bit more to learn first.
So there it is
Hello and nice to meet ya'll

Re: Can I make a suggestion?
Hello Todd, good to meet you.
I suppose I will use this as an opportunity to introduce myself also.
I'm 46 yrs old. Graduated high school and spent more that a few years working all kinds of odd jobs and playing guitar. I was a broke musician most the time. I did have a few longer term stints in the printing/publishing industry. But that didn't really get me excited. I had always be interested in electronics and use to fix many things for myself and others. I also had my share of repairs and projects that remained in pieces and finally the garbage can.
I got married at 25 yrs old (still married to the same person) and started to get a little more serious about life. It still took a few more years spent in Jobs I didn't like to finally do something about it. So at the age of 33 I went to school and got an A.A.S in Computer & Electronic Technology. I was a jerk off for the most part in high school, but took this very seriously and ended with a 3.98 GPA. Which wasn't that hard to do if you applied yourself.
I got very lucky and got a Job right away in the R&D Test Lab for Tyco Electronics. The lab dept. manager took a real liking to me and before I knew it I was involved in things I never dreamed. After a few years he got a job offer at a competitor (Foxconn) to run the development lab of an east coast division and brought me along with him. I was working with state of the art test equipment doing electrical and mechanical testing. This was during the boom of the internet and communication industry. I really learned way more than years of school could teach. I got a good understanding of what will work and the limits of design.
Well unfortunately, with the downturn of the economy a few years ago, I got layed off and have been working for myself doing everything from computer repair to small business networking to video edititng.
Still playing guitar the whole time, just not as much as I would like. Got into building effects about 2 years ago. Started with kits and then on to scratch builds, sourcing all the parts. Aside from a bunch of kits, I built a really cool Univibe clone, and a Mutron III is in the procces, but got sidetracked for the amp stuff.
I never played anything but tube amps, and I decided to try my hand at a tube amp. I spent a good 9 months researching and going back and forth between something simple or something I would really like to play. I decided it would be best not to source my own parts the first time, but wasn't happy with most the kits available. That's when I came upon Ceriatone. I got an HRM 50 kit that had no assembly at all. I build it and aside from a missed ground wire from the speaker output, it fired up right away. A really cool forumite found my mistake from a photo and I was on my way. It's the coolest sounding amp I have ever owned, and I've owned a few nice amps.
Next, is probably going to be a D-lator from scratch, sourcing my own parts. So hello to all, and I hope to contribute something in the future.
Sorry for the novel.
