Re: 12ax7 choice
There are cheaper NOS than Mullards, but the old stuff, even used, is hats and horns above anything currently made, especially in a Dumble circuit, and especially the European brands.
Used Amperex made in Holland (Heerlen) can be had for as little as $25 each on Ebay, I recently bought some in that price range.
Blackplate RCA and Raytheon are also reasonable used and well worth a try in D-circuits, as is the longplate GE in the PI and V1 and V2.

Re: 12ax7 choice
Hope you didn't pay a lot for them, this is "current production" right? The factory is defunct now, but in their last few years their reject rates went thru the roof.
There were some good non-microphonic ones get thru though, and I would prefer them tonally to the Sovtek WA/B/C, which are pretty nasty IMHO. Sovtek LPS however is one of the better current production 12AX7s.

Re: 12ax7 choice
these should be ok,NOS stock, the place i bought them from has offered a no quibble return if they prove to be microphonic
