Rocket OT

Post by CircuitButcher »

I'm planning a Rocket build (Std 4 X EL84) and am seeking recommendations for the output tranny that's going to to produce optimal tone.

Which maker/model delivers the goods for you?

The Heyboer version of the Dynaco A-470-S from rjguitar or from Triode Store. 4k3 primary.

FWIW, "rjguitar" is an AmpGarage forum member.

Good luck with your Rocket build - they tend to be less finicky to build and very friendly to most guitars (and pedals).

I heard that the original rockets actually had a 5k2 primary, but yes were based on the a470. Anyone know for sure?

Thanks Mark,

A lot of information in that Dynaco thread but seemingly not conclusive - different strokes for different folks.

A degree of conjecture over the correct impedance and the number of A470 variants.

Assuming the A470 design produces the definitive Rocket tone, is the Triode version the only model readily available?
