Parallel capictor in the Express

Post by mcrracer »

This is Phil posting for my father Marlon(mcrracer). My dad needs to know what the circuit designation is for the Coupling capacitor that Ken sometimes paralleled in the Express. Also what was the value? My dad has used this option before but can't remember the details and he can't see the schematics. He is trying to describe it to a fellow amp builder to finish an amp that is in work. He says he thinks its between stage 2 and stage 3 of the preamp. Thanks guys.

The 0.0022uf cap is replaced with a 0.001uf ceramic in parallel with a 0.001uf film cap. The film and ceramic in parallel should equal about 0.002uf but you can adjust the size of each cap (I.e. one bigger and one smaller value that still equal about 0.002uf) to "tune" the amount of hair you add. I hope this is clear..

Do a search for the "Trudy" schematic, you will find it right there.....

Thanks Cliff. Do you happen to know what cap number that is? C??? on the Express schematic and is that between stage 2 and stage 3 I have to describe this somebody else and i don't want to leave any room for error.

You are looking for C8 if I recall correctly. Usually a poly and ceramic, both of .001 uF in parallel.

I have all my express builds like trudy.
And Liverpools with 68k w two 0.002 in parallel.

Much better voicing imo. Ken did all later Liverpools like this. Not sure about the express how many he did like trudy.
