I've just assembled a Ceriatone C-lator kit and although it seems to be working correctly, it is not as transparent as I was expecting. With all the controls dimed there is no hum but there is a hiss, is this normal?
I've post photos and appreciate your input and advice.

I suspect there is nothing wrong. I built one point to point into an old Fender, and didn't ever need to have the send or return to be set much higher than 12:00. At those levels there was no audible hiss.

Re: Dumbleator clone question
Nice job sixstringer
thats a nice little kit
I agree with doc.. setting the controls around noon and adjust amp volume and drive from there. try some other tubes, look in files section and check voltages around the 12ax7

Re: Dumbleator clone question
Sometimes the hiss can be coming from the amp just amplified through the return amp of the lator..First make sure it's not coming from the amp before blaming the loop..Does it get worse in OD?..

Re: Dumbleator clone question
Thanks for the replies. I've always read that the dumbleator is very quiet and transparent. The hiss is not a big deal but it is there. It does not get worse with with the OD channel. Removing the C-lator from the signal chain removes the hiss, of course the tone suffers but with an effect plugged into the effects loop without the C-lator = no hiss. I'll try another tube.

I get some hiss from my amp if I have the return pot on the D'lator up to 3:00 or higher and turn up the output too high.
I think I read that the recovery stage has a 16db gain to it so it makes sense you could get some hiss out of it.

Re: Dumbleator clone question
If it's still there after you change tubes try this...
Pull the send cable from the back of the amp to the loop.. If it's still there you know it's in the loop..
With the loop dimed turn the effect unit off..If it goes away you know it's in the effect..If it's still there it's in the return amp
