Progress report on D'Lite chassis

Post by Normster »

Brownnote and I have finalized drawings for the chassis and sent them to the machine shop. Next step will be to have a couple of chassis run through the CNC process and do a test build. Hopefully, no more than a week. Once the final tweaks are done based on the test build, we'll order the full production run. Estimates from the machine shop are 10-14 days. (Of course that puts us squarely in the middle of the Christmas shipping season so all bets are off whether you'll receive the chassis before Christmas. A safer bet would be first week of January.)

If you haven't already done so, please let Brownnote know if you want his custom transformers or a complete kit. So far it looks like at least half are looking for a full kit but we don't want to under/over order the trannys.

Brownnote will be contacting everyone who ordered with a few more details, but I thought I'd give you guys a heads up.

Any idea what kind of finish you guys are planning on? Looking forward to this project, thanks for the work you've done.

Sorry, Otterpop. I overlooked your question. The chassis will be black powder-coated with white silk-screened graphics.

Yes. This was just a proof that I sent to Brownnote. The final drawing has labelled switches and the pinstripe is slightly thicker.

BTW, this is the "Marshall" orientation. IOW, tubes up.

So far it looks like most people are "voting" for tubes up. Moss will have faceplates made for tubes down combos. If this was a big enough run with a 50/50 interest, we could do both types, but so far it's looking like it's not feasible. I'll double check with Moss and see where we stand.

Can we get a face plate that start with the Input on the left and move towards the right....That faceplate looks backward?

I am not a member of the other forum to vote on this but I would prefer the 2 chassis I ordered to be "tubes down". Frankly I don't understand the interest in having a 6V6 head instead of a combo amp - JMHO.

Like I said, Marshall style...tubes up, input on the right. If you go tubes down the controls will be Fender style with the input on the left. The chassis will be the same either way, it's just the direction of the printing that changes.

If you are planning on a combo, you'll want tubes down so a faceplate is needed. For a head, I think tubes up is better because it keeps the heat away from the caps and resistors. It just takes a little getting used to if you've never used Marshall-style layouts.

The votes in the BN forum, don't show it but the tally from emails and other forums, so far it's a split leaning toward tubes down....it's still undecided.

As far as the layout, for people used to fender, that are going with tubes down, the controls will go from left to right.

For tubes up marshall style it will go right to left...so should work out for everybody.
