Hey all. I'm hoping to make a light faceplate on my next amp. Just a little maybe 2 to 3 in square with my initials on it. I'm assuming I can just get a clear piece of acrylic, paint the back of it black, then remove the paint to leave just the logo? Then of course run a few extra heater wires to a bulb behind it then?
I'd love to hear from anyone else who's done this as this forum is crazy awesome with info. Thanks.

yes, that is how it's done. you can use gel film to change the color of your logo. (sundown, matchless, etc.)
Another way to do this is to engrave the plexi with your design or lettering then light it from the sides with LED so the exposed edges glow like fiber optics. (hughes & ketner)

Or light it from below so only the engraving glows (Ampeg).selloutrr wrote:Another way to do this is to engrave the plexi with your design or lettering then light it from the sides with LED so the exposed edges glow like fiber optics. (hughes & ketner)
Re: Light Up Name Plate Help.
I used to have an solid state Ampeg amp head that had a control panel that was etched like a printed circuit board.
It had lights on the edge and the areas that were exposed glowed a soft blueish color.
Probably the neatest thing about that amp.

I think that is what Firestorm was eluding to.

Actually, I was thinking of the light-up plexi logos on the fliptops, but that sounds cool, too.
