Wouldn't a VVR do the same?

Well, I have yet to start my build but as always I have started all my research and laid down my gameplan in what it it is exactly what I want my end result to be. About 15 years ago a buddy of my was doing PPIMV mods to marshall amps. I loved this mod in my 74' Marshall 100 watt. I think this would be the way to go because in live situations you can tailor the amp to the venue. Your response caused me to do a quick search and the link I have attached answers the question that you posed to me, suffice it to say this Forum has been a blessing to me because if you have question, you can bet it has been asked before, not only once but will be answered in depth.

I have yet to see one episode of cathode stripping.

Try it. It's like crack. They tell you it's bad, but then you just can't get the glazed look of ingnorant bliss off your face. Beats any attenuator to pieces.
I won't run my NOS tubes outside 10% of their heater rating. Nothing will kill the tubes quicker than overvoltage or undervoltage on the heater when you're trying to form an electron cloud on the cathodes. Just because something works doesn't mean you should do it..

Whatever works. I have a job to do, and it gets done this way without the terrifying outcomes that I keep reading about.
