what is the phase inverter pot for?

Could someone explain to me what the pot is for that sits in between the phase inverter plate resistors?

Everytime I smoke pot my phase gets inverted :)

aw come-on folks, I really wanted to learn about the phase inverter adjustment potentiometer. Is it for a tonal effect?
