Mini HRM/86 Special BOM updated with HRM

I have put together a BOM for Mat's 86 Special EL84/EF86 MiniHRM.

I have contacted Mat and 10thTx who did the work on the layouts and schematics. Also thanks to Colossal for the work on the original mini HRM. I have used that schematic to update my BOM.

Please have a look through and if you notice any errors when compared to the schematic, let me know.

I have left some of the extra hardware parts I ordered in, like standoffs etc.
I also ordered 1 or 2 extra parts like LED panel light, ready for another project.

I also added in the parts for an adjustable bias, which I may or may not use, as I will probably wire in a parallel octal to use a 6V6 if I don't get on with the EL84, as I have never been a real fan of that tube...

I have checked it in Mouser's BOM tool and it creates the order correctly.

Just nice to contribute something, as I have had a lot of help from folks on here. I would like hold off the order until it gets checked, though, as I have been known to make one or two mistakes before now...

Hi - If you take the spread sheet and copy and paste the columns using the separators between the Mouser no. and the quantity into the Mouser BOM tool, it will produce a ready to order and costed project.

Thanks Rog. I couldn't get the quanities to properly populate, but it was easy enough to enter them in. I am SURE it was user-error on my part.

I think I'm going to go for this build. I really liked the tone of the amp. Seems like the build will be a little pricey?? I haven't checked out transformers yet.

I have some 16 x 8 x 2 chassis here brand new so I'll probably use them unless you suggest I order up a smaller one. I think someone recommended 12 inches? That seems so small! It might be a cool challenge for a mini head though.

Complexity of the build?? Are there gut shots anywhere?

I have a Hammond 1444-22 chassis 12x8x2, it's very cheap.
For trannies, Hammond 369EX (UK spec, for US, 269EX) and 125DSE.

As for the cost, no it's not a cheap build, but I think it should be worth it

The transfomers are very reasonable. Anything else needed for this build other than a chassis, wire, tube sockets, and a board? (and the obvious, tubes). There is no choke, right?

I just realized that the filter caps where included in the BOM...that makes it a little easier to swallow.

Is the rotary switch 690-C6P0403N-A part of the adjustable bias you mentioned? Or am I just missing something on the schematic?

BTW this really doesn't have a HRM board/stack anymore does it?

So what is the $$$$$ damage if you don't mind me asking? I haven't plugged it all in.

Those 4 axial filter caps 47uF/450V/339mA are costing $3.46 each versus $1.79 for a radial Nichicon 647-UPZ2W470MHD (with slightly better ripple capability (380mA) and slightly smaller physical dimensions). I know axials have the classic "look".....but the spec guy in me isn't buying it, not at nearly double the price.

What are the four 1 ohm 3W wirewound resistors for? Are they part of the bias circuit also?

I see three 1k/3W resistors on the schematic and only two on the BOM (line 17).

Or maybe I'm not seeing straight. Time for bed. Goodnight

This is the speaker impedance switch. The original didn't seem to have one, but I like them

Well I think Mat and 10thTx can answer that better, but I guess it has been slightly modded to suit the application.

I'm in England, so the Mouser prices I get are, I suspect, more than US folks will pay. This lot came to £110...

They were the nearest I could come up with but I will check and may amend this so thanks mate

They are for the bias yes, I ordered 4 so I have some spare for another project - changed BOM to 2 now.

The vishay 600v caps on lines 64 and 66 are duplicated (1) and (2) for a total of three of these caps.

I upgraded one of the 1M 1watts to a 1M 2Watt for the input jack and also metal film instead of carbon film to make it quieter:

Well, I'm in, seems all I need are the iron and chassis on this one...I ordered up the whole thing and added a few items. Thanks for the BOM! That was the shortest source-job i've ever experienced!

Yup revised the BOM to include the metal film 1M, good call there.

1K 3W are there on line 4 now, made sure there are 3 now.

I think what happened was I tried to order the list and Excel excelled itself and disordered it...

I have now submitted my order according to BOM revD.

Let's hope I caught all the supplies needed, thanks for the help anyone who chipped in and, of course, to the guys who did all the hard work on the layouts and schematics and Mat, for the great tones and playing that made me want to have an 86 Special of my own in the first place, and to the big fella who provided the 101 HRM preamp.

This kind of sounds like an Oscar speech



I will document my build with some pics, hope some others will too.

I can tell you now, I am going to need some help along the way here, just a warning

On your BOM line 112 is for eyelets. Mouser part 534-46
What do you use to stake the eyelets into the board?
The staking tools that go with these are high priced.
