Look, I did not have to post, but I saw your enthusium and decided to show you the amp.

As you all know these are very rare and expensive. I have been offered $29K, but will not sell.

If I were to sell the amp, I would show the insides to the buyer, but not the whole world. It would not be fair to Mr. Dumble.

LOL... I'm sure I bought a used car from you once..

So what's your history with the amp? How did you wind up with it ?
Sorry, I find it interesting that someone joins an amp 'building' forum
dedicated to a specific build, fishes around for prices and flashes a photo of a particular amp that has a 'dodgy' history then refuses to show 'gut' shots claiming 'honour' as support. You don't find that a ' bit hard to swallow'?
I bought the amp over the summer. For your information, I have been repairing and modifying amps for 20 years in the Boston area. I love tube amps especially Dumbles. The amp came up for sale and people through the grapevine contacted me.
I did ask the forum for help on pricing, because at the time I really did not have a handle on what it was worth.

If your ever in the Boston Area, you are more than welcome to come play the amp.

Sincerely,

Paul

LOL...I guess my humour doesn't translate through the keyboard that well.
Well congrats on your purchase and I hope you got it for a good price.
Hard to say if it will go up in value , others have already said the reasons why.
That amp was offered to me for $3500 last year like I said but I declined because I wasn't sure of the cred of the seller also the original cond, plus I started rolling my own. I do recall thinking it was perhaps one of the uglyest I'd seen. Looked like it had been hit on the head with a shovel once or twice and spent time as a biker mole (no offence intended).
Glad it sounds good and your happy with it.
At this stage of the game there's a heap of inside shots of D amps available on this site and the WWW that one more ain't really gonna tip the boat over as this nuts been cracked long ago. Still would nice though.

The pilot light is an LED like the one in #124. Not sure what you're seeing on the bright switch. Also, it looks like the Accent switch has been replaced with a Presence knob...something I'm considering on my amp as well.

50 or 100 watt?

Can someone explain the markings and history? Maybe that is already here somewhere? Like it was Overdrive then Overdrive special, did they all have Jazz rock switches? Deep switch? Is there a way to tell from the outside if the are HRM?
This would be a good topic for another thread
and as far as I know it has always been overdrive special.

Hi Paul, I'm about 30 miles south of you. Maybe I can take a cruise up and check it out sometime and talk shop. :D

I'll be looking forward to some educated opinions on how the modern clones fare against an original. On commercial recordings you can't ever be sure how much of what you hear is altered in the mixdown.

As far as investments go, collectibles generally revert to the mean -- especially if they are practically replaceable. One of these days (when I have a lot less to do than now) I'll run a time/price chart on a '57 Strat just to see the cycles and internal rates of return. There is always a spread between the bid and the ask at any given time but with 50 years of history, there is sure to be a pattern.

Normster, after hearing the DumbleLite, I believe the cost of the Dumble tone just came way down!
