Have a set of JJ 6V6's in my Dlite... had them for about 3.5 years.... they seem to be getting microphonic...bit by bit. Is that a typical sort of issue on these or just happen to get a pair that is going south.

JJ 6V6 Microphonic?

Re: JJ 6V6 Microphonic?
Output tubes generally don't last as long as pre-amp tubes. I typically get 12-24 months out of a set of 6V6s, depending on how much I use the amp in question
Re: JJ 6V6 Microphonic?
They are JJs, so expect them to rattle apart. Besides, they are not really 6V6s to begin with, more like a 7591 or 6L6 in a small bottle.

Thanks guys, what do you like in 6V6 for a Dlite amp?

Re: JJ 6V6 Microphonic?
My favorite 6V6s are smoked glass Raytheons, big bottle Marconi 6V6Gs, and a litany of American NOS RCAs, GEs, etc.
The JJ 6V6S (S=sort of
) is popular as it handles higher plate voltages and current than a typical 6V6, so in other words, it performs beyond the standard specifications for a 6V6. Just look at the plate structure compared to a real 6V6. It's not even close.
Some other options to consider are 5V6GTs and 6EZ5s.

Re: JJ 6V6 Microphonic?
I have a range of NOS 6V6GT and GTA in my stash (including Sylvania smoky bottles, Radiotron, AWA) but I am running JJ6V6S in all (5 of) my '6V6' amps at present, as they are quite reliable, have a good sound and can hack the high voltages/power dissipation. In fact I reckon they are an excellent all-round current production tube. (The JJ6L6GC however is another kettle of fish altogether, and I have become bitterly disillusioned with them)
