The very best EU transformers for a 124 ODS?
Hi everyone. I did a search and found many names (heyboer, Mercury, Vintage Fender trannies). But since the trannies are critical to the sound, I don't want to skimp here. And they need to be suitable for use in Europe with a 230V primary.
So which outputtransformer and EU power transformer and are the very best for a 124 ODS build.

Based on my experience I would say '60s and '70s Fender, at least in a '70s Dumble build. Very difficult to find these days and very expensive.
The OT is far more important than the PT in this regard. That's good for you because there are far fewer old Fender Export PTs around than 120V/60Hz PTs. However you're in Europe, and that's where the export PTs are for the most part.
Heyboer and Mercury Magnetics are both very good, most folks think MM are overpriced, however they offer discounts if you buy several, check their website.
I know Magnetic Components don't have Export Fender PTs but they do make Marshall 220/240V PTs, their OTs are also mostly very good, ask anyone on this forum, and well priced.

Erwin has played my #102 more than I have as I got it yesterday. I bought Twin Reverb PT and OT from TAD. HUGE PT, lots of iron. Sounds good to me and Erwin seems to like them. I'm not sure all are but TAD sells Mojo and Heyboer makes the Mojo trannies so...
Not tap for the relays btw

Re: The very best EU transformers for a 124 ODS?
Probably not all that relevant, but I just built a D-style HRM amp and opted for KT77's so i went with a Marstran OT. I have built a couple of amps using Heyboer before and this amp with the Marstran has a very cool clear and well balanced tone. I don't have either of the heyboer amps here to do a side by side and both where marshall type amps, but the cleans from my d-style and the over drive have way more definition and balance of tone.

No, to Marstran specs.

I seem to recall that some people have used tweed Twin transformers too and have been very happy with them. I suspect HAD never used them as they were hard to find and would have been very expensive second hand.
I wonder where the Tweed Twin transformer shines?
It is a little off topic, but it is another option to consider.

When I think of your usual tweed transformer I think of a relatively underrated component. Fender didn't initially design their amps to be pushed in the power stage so they used what was adequate for a clean amp. But when you push them enough, they exhibit some frequency limiting that I don't think you Dumble guys are after.

I've used several of the Mercury Mag High power Tweed Twin OPT transformers with real good results.. You want to get the over sized version.. They are expensive..
