BM with skyline??? The clips don't do much for selling this amp. Clean clip is OK and on 2nd one you can get a bit of the Dumble vibe if you strain your ears. Other 2 sound bad.

Yeah, I just read and listened to the clips. That last clip of the OD sounds like the amp needs some attention. Very farty sounding.Tonegeek wrote:BM with skyline??? Re: Public guts of ODS
My 100w HRM BM is the same spec (Skyliner, BM PI) but with 6L6's. The OD's sound scape is very squashy but focused, and fat, great for Buckers. The cleans are huge & the bass response of the amp is quite intense with Ev's (In a good way), but I've dug it even more with G1265's lately. At first I wanted to mod the PI to skyliner specs but I'm digging the way the PWR amp sounds now, even with a Quinn 183 pre. Its kinda got the vibe of Erwin_Ve's when using the non-HRm preamp & D-lator.
The clips do not do this amp justice I bet.

Re: Public guts of ODS
Tonegeek, The OPT Marshall style is larger than Fender Twin type and has to be mounted on its side
Due to clearance issues, what you see is custom made brackets.

The story I heard is quite different: The transformers brackets were too flimsy to support the transformers and were removed and new ones were put on that would hold the OT's.
I have one of those NOS OT's and I would replace the brackets before gigging it.
I have seen one ODS with a slightly tilted OT....

Re: Public guts of ODS
It would be nice when reviewing an amp they actually have somebody that knows Dumble amps to do it.
He's throwing incorrect information out there.
Plus the clips suck.

It's not a skyliner stack...it's all bluesmaster from the picture... nothing on the bass pot.

Looks like Bedrock used the same setup for this BC-50 model.

Yep, thats it and using the washers spreads the mounting centers so that their mounting holes align with the chassis holes.jelle wrote:The story I heard is quite different: The transformers brackets were too flimsy to support the transformers and were removed and new ones were put on that would hold the OT.

Re: Public guts of ODS
I actually considered (and quickly rejected) the idea that it might be a far fetched tone tweak to put some space between the xfrm coils and the covers, kind of like reducing capacitance by removing the covers on humbuckers. Mounting alignment makes much more sense.ToneMerc wrote:Yep, thats it and using the washers spreads the mounting centers so that their mounting holes align with the chassis holes.jelle wrote:The story I heard is quite different: The transformers brackets were too flimsy to support the transformers and were removed and new ones were put on that would hold the OT.

Re: Public guts of ODS
I suspected as much, and your observation at least confirms it is not a Skyliner. Looks like that amp has been modded/repaired judging by all the different pot types. I see some alpha, CTS, etc. I do recall someone saying HAD used what was on hand at the time, so the differences might not mean anything.ampdork wrote:It's not a skyliner stack...it's all bluesmaster from the picture... nothing on the bass pot.
Re: Public guts of ODS
My favorite part is where he says it was part of a "run" of 40 amplifiers with skyline and EL34's. No wonder it takes so long to get one!
