Chassis thoughts

This thread made me wonder what chassis people have used and what they like in a chassis.

These chassis look good though I don't know much about the quality, and the availability of parts to fit these chassis. The weld may or may not be sufficient?

I like the retro look of the silver chassis, the font looks great!
However it is made for a 50 watt amp. Where do you find the sliding switches, or those funky round knobs?

The drilled holes worry me a little as I wonder about the spacing and what they are intended for?

This is another chassis we all know and use. I like the fact there is a board set available for it. I like the modern inclusions, I don't like the missing logo (but I may be in the minority on this issue).

What are the thoughts on chassis?

What have you used and what do you like?

I for one can attest to the quality of the CE chassis.
Very nicely built.

But, the blank area by the pilot light does look empty.
So you can put whatever you want there.
Ideally a stencil or silkscreen type logo would look best.

The other thing that I wish I had done different is to put the power and standby switch on the front.
I know that isn't the HAD way but I hate reaching behind the amp to turn it on.

In my room it is very cramped and hard to get to where I can reach it.
I'm thinking I may still put the standby switch on the right front side but due to the relay transformer, there may not be room.

Mark, I suppose the Asian chassis would be ok for a 50 watt build not a 100 watt Due to the weight of the transformers. The CE chassis are robust solid and will pass the Dumble two story drop test easy.
And Jason’s boards are wonderful to work with. I have used four CE chassis great results I have one Asian chassis still in the box I will never use it not worth my time, plus the Dumble logo on it is just wrong. The CE chassis are 1/8" thick. Asian chassis 2mm thick and all the holes are the wrong size, and the board spacing is fouled up.

The problem I have w/ the Natch chassis/ Asian is the lip at the top where the mounting holes go is a bit thin so mounting the threaded inserts is a problem..I made 2 wooden rails inside the cabinet for the chassis to sit and works great and is an easy mod.. You can simply slide the amp right out and for small tweaks lik OD trimmer and PI balance you don't even have to fully remove it..It also helps with chassis fatigue down at the PT side..This actually worked out for the better for me..I highly recommend adding the rails even if the amp bolts from the top..
BTW.. The amp has Musicman 220-130- PT and a 150w Fender output Iron
and was on the Alan Jackson 09 tour for 5 months bounced in a semi all over the county and is still straight..The silkscreen wipes right off with a little MEK..

The CE chassis look wonderful and am sure work just fine as well..

Currently, I have two builds going into CE chassis. Also, I just got a chassis from Bill "wjdumham" at Sebagosound. They are all great chassis', 1/8 thick, accurate cutouts for the power transformers.

My compliant and keep in mind that I am very grateful that these are available, is the drill guides for the OT and the boards. While the PT, jacks, controls and tube locations stay pretty constant throughout the different builds the boards and OT change enough that I would prefer to have the chassis not drilled for those components.

That said, I'd also plug Jason's boards. They fit the CE chassis and they are very well made. All of these guys have been great to do business with.

I've also built a D-lite on rj's chassis and boards. They are very good also. rj is more of a trainwreck guy but he has a few sets for Dumble style builds.

I don't think that the Asian ones are really any cheaper and I wouldn't consider building on one with the thinner stock. IMO, 2mm is too thin.

As to the blank spot on the chassis.... I'm more inclined to create a logo that mounts on the cabinets that I am to mess with the chassis.

Through his products, this forum has taken a lot from HAD. It has done so without his permission or blessing. Personally, I draw the line at putting his name on an amp I made.

(please don't take this as an invite to launch into the another endless debate of HAD's intellectual property rights............. I'd have to shoot myself)

It is good to know the pro's and con's. I agree with not having "by Dumble" on an amp, but if the product is good it isn't a deal breaker.

I agree lets not talk of intellectual rights. I think I've alluded elsewhere that I think a better version of the Bluesmaster HRM could be made.

Like others I'm grateful that chassis are available. I've done a couple of builds using the CE chassis and the same number in Brownnote. I love the thickness of the CE and the price is very fair.My only complaints with the CE would be some minor QC issues and the odd grommet locations for the OT transformer/choke. For functionality, my fav chassis has been the BN Blue Monkey chassis; front power controls, provisions for dual 6RVL locking bias pots ,4 rear mounted bias jacks and a rearward hole for the OD trimmer shaft.

If I could make any hard changes to the CE chassis; I would push the FET board mounting holes rearward 1.125", adding two holes so that an additional relay board could be mounted. I would also add a 3rd toggle switch hole to the rear.

the cool part about the is the layour on the back looks like it's spaced correctly for a curtisy outlet and the chassis mounting holes are correcton the sides not the lip. The down side is that it uses a small din connector for the foot switch.

to date I have not found a true Correct chassis.

Sounds awesome, the variety in tones is really amazing!

Very very loud though... (well, of course it's supposed to be at 100watts) was playing it through a 4x12 with 2 evm12's and 2 v30's; had master on 1 or 2 and volume around 1 or 2, had the whole house shaking.
