Scott Henderson.......

Post by Rob Livesey »

Hi Chaps,

Scott Henderson is coming to a great venue near me in May. I've heard lots about him, but never listened to anything ! Anyway, I checked out some stuff on YouTube today to see if I'd fancy getting tickets.

From what I've seen/heard his stuff is pretty avant garde........or erm....inaccessible.

Has anyone seen him recently, can you make a compelling arguement which would persuade me to buy tickets?

Cheers,
Rob.

He's at Band on the Wall in Manchester Sunday 8th May. The venue is great, the best around. My mate Mike is the soundman.

I'm also going to see Matt Schofield there on the Thursday before (5th).

Leeds is maybe an hour tops on the train.

Rob.

“Tore Down House” by Scott Henderson with Thelma Houston is not very far removed, stylistically, from Jimi or Stevie Ray. Great tone.

The intro to Scott Hendersons’ “Hillbilly in the Band” is amazing… I wish I had those licks. The solos then go off in a different (ehrm, 'creative') direction…

rsalinger beat be to it. Tore Down House! Also check the CD Vital Tech Tones 2 with Victor Wooten - the tune "King Twang". I'd say worth going just to marvel at the technique! Wish I could go...

+1 He 's on my list; best players ever.

One of the workshops he did were he "revealed" some harmonic and rhytmic playing concepts are engraved in my memory forever.

A live show won't be MTV looking band but hard working, listening and anticepating musicians, which is a joy in these days. If you're looking for a more accessible Henderson you could listen to his "Dog Party/ Tore down house"cd's.

I saw Scott YEARS ago at The Bottom Line in NYC. No doubt some of his music is out there but he puts on a great show. What do you have to lose? I say go enjoy yourself. I think you'll have a good time.
