Also Ej never ran two cabs on one head ever
the stack would just be for show... his top cab had 25 green backs
the bottom cab 80watt celestions with 8 ohms.

The other two b cabs one for sss one for twins....
The 25s would break up fast the 80s would not...

That cello tone your hearing is from the 80 watt celestion cab.
ev 12ls were always on the SSS.

Thats what I remember while standing there.

oh least I forget the 4 by 4 cedar blocks he sat those
cabs on and has sat them on for about 30 years...

Eric Told me everything matters cable length proximity
speakers all of it has a place in the puzzle.

I heard ej was using the Roland Micro Cube RX Battery Powered Modeling Guitar Amp sitting behind the others for show. :)

But that could be just some rumor I started

1777-cone 8-ohm G12-80s for lead...but 444-cone 8-ohm G12-80s for the Dumble starting around AVM. Tones era was still the EVs for the Dumble. He also preferred the SSS pre-amp to the Manzamp...into an Odyssey power-amp, VI era. An example of TS808 into Tube Driver is "Righteous" (AVM).

...and, yes, everything does matter. Maybe only a little...but a lot of "littles" add up to a lot.

I heard from a friend-of-a-friend the Roland Micro sits atop some 4x4 cedar blocks. Which reminds me ..... I need to check eBay for some NOS cedar.

The latest edition of Guitar Player features ej and has notes of what he used on each song on his latest album.

He prefers Twin Reverbs one in a head and the other a 212 combo per his report.

4 of those in a cab are brutal to move.
they sound unreal but oooof what a load to lug around.

manzamp

Post by qtone »

yea the manzamp was not in rotation long it seemed.
I saw it maybe a few times in the studio while I was allowed there.
I was fortunate to get those visits as he closed the practice sessions
to band only and understandable.

I said hey play some Hendrix and they played every Hendrix tune
which was a hit and then the obscure ones one after the other.

Bill Maddox and Kyle brock were there that day
Rip Bill

I am just trying to recall what I saw and heard those times
no rumors here....just what I saw standing there.

I saw purple goop in his SSS head as well while they tried to fix it
but Brandon says no evidence of it ever being in there....

Thats because it was fixed and my guess is it went back to HAD
through Bruton as he bought it back from EJ first...

My guess is Had kept that original magic board and
replaced it with another to fix it..

Eric heard it again and it was not the same then either..
But I have no reason to start rumors here or anywhere else..

Just the facts Mam

That sss head was gooped with near black purple goop
the techs could not fix it and thus ej sold it back to bruton.

It never sounded the same after that.
Eric told me that in person outside of Rays in Austin...
