Face plate making in Inkscape
Hey guys,
I started messing around with this Inkscape program to make a faceplate for my 50w Octal Rocket build. I've came to a conclusion that this program rocks for making faceplates. I plan on getting the file below printed on a thick vinyl tomorrow @ FedEx/Kinko's. I'll put double sided tape on it before I tighten the pots up.
The file below can be edited to your needs, right now the dimensions of the faceplate are 19" x 2". I uploaded a PDF that's ready to be printed (with multiple faceplate background colors so you get your money's worth when you get a full sheet of vinyl printed),
PM me for the Vector file that can be edited in Inkscape, its too big to upload here.
Also if you make a faceplate that is small enough you can get it printed on a laminated material that fedex has with adhesive on the back, I use it for my pedals with steller results.
The program is Free, here's the download:

Re: Face plate making in Inkscape
I use photoshop, and i can pretty much do anything i want with that. Granted tho, i'm sure that app you have has special provisions to get the text lined up with the pots perfectly and automated numbering for the 1 thru 10 for the pots and all that kind of thing. I can do that to but it's probably not near as simple as with your app. Still i get good results, just a little more work to line things up. Nothing fancy even tho it can do fancy. But i just like a clean look. This is my never ending project i'm always pestering the good people here about...

The logo and name on the faceplate is "Thunderbird hi gain fifty". My bike is also called a thunderbird and my all time fav bike i've owned, so i thought it was appropriate.

Faceplates...Who needs 'em!
As much as I want to start making faceplates for my builds, I love the look of an amp that looks homebuilt. If I'm not selling it, I don't bother.

Ahhhh but they're so purdy !
Kinda like that final coat of wax on a fine car or bike after you got it running real nice.

Thanks for posting that Greg. I was not familiar with Inkscape so I downloaded it to check it out and it is very powerful for a free graphics program.

Have you had any issues with inkscape's stablilty?
I'd like to down load and take it for a test drive, but not if it's got bugs. I'd hate to issues or conflict with other software and have to wipe the system and reload.

I haven't had any problem with it yet. Actually I've had more problems with Photo-shop then Inkscape on a my HP Elite PC w/ 8 gigs of ram and a 2 tb HD. Inscape doesn't use much ram or memory.

Re: Face plate making in Inkscape
Got the file, and loaded it into Inkscape. You are truly an artist. It's going to take me a bit to get my head wrapped around this piece. But, it will surely save me a lot of work on faceplaces, for my small projects. Thanks for sharing. Hope I can return the favor in some manner. Have a good one.boldaslove6789 wrote:
