Robin Trower

I caught the show last night at the House of Blues in Houston. General admission. Standing in the same spot for 3+ hours was worth it to watch him play from 10 feet away.

He played through two Marshall Vintage Modern half stacks and pushed them with various Fulltone pedals. The amps were nothing special, but after an hour of playing he was really finding the sweet spot and making them sing. He played on the bridge pickup almost the entire time.

For me, Little Bit of Sympathy was the highlight, but the entire set was great. He played four or five songs from Bridge of Sighs, a few from Seven Moons, some from the new album and a few others that I was not familiar with.

He is showing his age a bit to look at him (62), but not when you see him move around and hear him play. The sudden loss of Gary Moore is a real wake up call for me. I would urge everyone to go out and see our icons perform live while they are still around and sounding great.

Note to self... learn how to play Little Bit of Sympathy.

I've been listening to Trower for the last week while driving. My favorite is definitely Live. The quality of the album stinks, but that playing.........................................................................................................................whew!

I remember seeing Trower in Mobile on his Long Misty Days tour. It was pure magic. We were about 5 feet from stage and he seemed bigger than life. He was the first real guitar master that I saw live. He played a lot of stuff off new album which was quite good ,but his songs from Bridge of Sighs stand out. Rock me baby, The fool and me, and Little bit of sympathy live are always over the top for me.

Man I used to love the Trower band.

Never saw them live but had a few mind altering trips centered on that music, especially Bridge of Sighs.

I've seen Trower 9 times and Gary Moore only three. But I agree. We need to see the people who are responsible for us being into guitars and amps alot more before they are all gone. lets face it, other than SRV no one has stepped up to take their place.

Checkout Grooveyard radio online. They feature their own artists and most of them have a pretty firm guitar presence. I have bought of few albums from the label over the last month or so. The label features a lot of good relatively unknown artists.
