Ruby tubes 6L6GCM-STR
Anyone know who makes this tube? It's about a year or 2 old, so what was Ruby rebranding for 6L6's then? Single small round halo type getter. Heres a pic

Yep, no doubt. Well, i wanted to try a pair of the extremely highly regarded SED 6L6, and i just found a pair I can try in my amp. At about $80 they are double what they were getting till they jacked the cost way up. But i don't mind paying that if they are as good as they say. Some say better than many highly regarded NOS 6L6. But i wasn't about to spend that much w/o knowing, and now i can try b4 i buy.

Ruby uses mostly Chinese tubes.
They are tubes of function not tone.
What makes Ruby tubes worth buying is the 90 day replacement warranty.

I have quite a few Winged C 6L6s. I compared them against some TAD 6l6s in a Fuchs ODS50 and an original 65 Super reverb. There is almost no difference in the Fuchs and the Winged Cs are only slightly better than the TADs in the Super, IMO. I would not pay double the $ for them, that's for sure. I did not compare them at different bias points - both were at at about 33mA.

Re: Ruby tubes 6L6GCM-STR
well, i DID read that to get the good with the SED's you have to bias them reasonably hot. I think they were talking 70%. But 33 is pretty low for a 6L6 unless the plate voltage is stupid high, no?vibratoking wrote:I have quite a few Winged C 6L6s.
