We have a winner!!!

Exactly what was wrong at V2. Thanks for saving me tons of time!!

V2 voltages now 203v and 211v. Too late to hear it tonight, but I'll give it a go in the am.

Should I mess with the dropping string to lower these voltages further?

V1 194 200
V2 203 211

Or just give it a listen and let it settle a while?

Thanks again Bob-I

I think your V1 and V2 are just fine. Different tubes could lower those voltages a little, if you want.

I'd leave it. Every tube you'll put in there will be different, plus the dropping string functions to add bloom and sag, changing it will change everything.

Don't feel bad Dave, I did exactly the same thing on my last build.
Bob clued me in as well.

I'll bet it sounds 100% better now. :D

That's a steel one from Henry at RedPlate. I think it may be the one he uses for a BlackVerb? 4 octal holes & 5 preamp holes. I really should put a d'lator in there somewhere......

The OD sounds way better now. I'll post some clips later this week.
Now on to the Bluesmaster HRM in the Funk chassis.

OD clip

Post by stelligan »

OD is happening now. The amp is a little bright - perhaps it's just a bit "green" and needs to burn in some. I may swap out that fancy Gepco coax that's in there for some funky old Radio Shack stuff to mellow it a bit. Or maybe a cap at the passive loop? Here is a Telecaster clip with cleans on one side and OD + PAB on the other. An Eminence Delta Pro 12A in a TL box: http://luckystiffs.net/barbados.mp3

Thanks for listening. Lots of clams, put this clip was about posting the sound. Wouldn't have got there this soon without the help. Thanks to all.

I'll post on the other amp when it gets fired up, but Mark's Bluesmaster "no love" thread has me rethinking this 100 watter as a BM. I may rework it into something 70's-like. The chassis won't jive, but hey...........

OD is definitely happening there Dave. Sounds great! Congrats on what is shaping up to be a fine build after you hiatus. :D

Cheers, Brian

Thanks, Brian. I have been putting a few hours a day on it and it seems to be either smoothing out or growing on me.

The cleans aren't without breakup, but in a good way. In fact, with humbuckers it breaks up rather quickly. Is this as to be expected in an amp with the 150k/220k at V1?

My high plate amps (220K/150K rather than 150k/220k BTW) have to be really pushed hard to get any breakup on clean
