I never loved my express, my buddy did one and it sounds great, mine just didnt do it for me, or my playing style. Oh well!
But i discovered the Komet stuff recently and figured it was so close to the express it was worth a try to hear the difference.
To be fair, ive only modded the circuit /tonestack.
Wow! I guess its closer to the 50 as its ss rectified, but what a tone!
I am definitely ordering trannies to build a 60, this amp is amazing.
Quieter, prettier, but still mean when pushed, and more bottom, no harsh brightness. Even feels like theres no NFB, just sustains and the notes hang. Beautiful! I am really diggging it!
Komet modded express..

Yeah I agree Don, I recently had a mini amp fest at my home and the guys played through a lot of my amps and the K60/Asteroid was a favorite.

Re: Komet modded express..
Oh and the touch control, what a damn beautiful thing! Thanks Mark for the heads up
I reckon i would build it with 2 secondary taps and do what Z does with the Z wreck, cos this amp at about 400V is killer, i kinda know what to expect with more volts, so having another little switch on the rear would be no probs.
I was thinking last night how easy to mod my old superlead to Komet... it sure has the volts! And 100 watts..

Re: Komet modded express..
That would be an interesting project.
I'm running 452v on the plates of my recent 50w Rocket Reverb
Yeah, right smack in the middle of a new Komet 60 into a mojo Bassman chassis which will be going in a head cabinet.
Put the B3, 4 & 5 filter caps on the tone board next to their respective circuits. The remainding filter caps are on their own board.
Thinking of converting my Ceriatone Express into something maybe the K50 since the K50 is SS rectified like the Express.

Re: Komet modded express..
Mark do it! As you have a k60 you will be able to tell me how the modded express sounds in comparison. I'm using a pool tran in mine at 5.2k. Only take less than an hour for you...
