what's next: 15watt dumble?

Post by surfsup »

I've been debating a tw or dumble, think I am leaning toward the dumble...

In prepping for this build I am wondering if there are any schematics for a lower output dumble with reverb and fx loop and maybe a footswitch to control reverb on/off? Any help would be appreciated.

I've been thinking of a dumble preamp/dumblator in a rack box. Just thinking of course - will report back in a few years given current build pace... :?

Well Geezer posted the tweed ODS type amp which could very well be built using 6V6.

I built a 2-6V6 ODS with built-in D'lator using Deluxe Reverb iron. Turned out great.

How "low power" do you want?

You could use this work around http://www.ampbooks.com/home/amp-techno ... t-7173488/ that would get a twin tube down to class A wattages. Makes more sense to have 2 amps in one if you dont just play at home. But im new to amp building so who knows. You could always have a triode switch as well.

... or you could just turn down the master volume knob...

I'd like it to sound good in the 5-15 watt range. I'll check out that ODS. Thanks for that!

Well (with those guidelines) here's Geezer's schematic with reverb, FX and VVR (you could also use PPMIV like he did). It's a DRAFT idea. Check for errors!

Yea I just downloaded a ton of different versions of this amp. thanks for posting the 1-4 revisions. I am not anywhere near the "check for errors" level, but will study this and try and figure out what's going on. I should maybe pick something with a documented BOM like some of the trainwrecks but then again, I'd learn more approaching this on my own. The amp definitely sounded great in the clips. With two 6V6 tubes, this would run around 15-20 watts correct? With the VVR that would probably fit right in for what I'm looking for.

I have a 2x6V6 Dumble that I built about 5-6 years ago. I used a Princeton PT and Deluxe OT in a Princeton Chassis, SS rectifier, can cap for primary filters and Princeton can cap for the rest of the filters. With a 1x12 EVM this thing is amazing. I'm tempted to build a 1x12 combo cab for a grab and go amp.

Bob I think this could well be my first scratch build!

I've put 6V6s in my HRM 50 but I prefer the 6L6s but in some places it's too much, but I would love (and need) a grab and go combo.

Is there any more info about your build?

Much appreciated, thanks

Since this is your first scratch build, I'd recommend a larger chassis than I used, this is REALLY tight. A Princeton Reverb Chassis or the Allenamps.com CHS chassis, which is the same size and will fit in a Princeton Reverb cabinet.

I used vishay-dale RN65 resistors on the plate load resistors, Xicon CF 1 watt for the rest, Xicon MPP and MP capacitors. The can caps are a 50/50 in the rectifier hole and a Princeton stock cap in the stock location. The relays are 5V so I could use the rectifier heater winding for the relay supply.

I'd also recommend a 12" speaker, not a 10 like in the Princeton. You can squeeze a 12 into a Princeton Reverb cabinet, see mojotone's cab.

I hope that helps. PM me is you get stumped.

I don't see the reverb or FX so I think I shouldn't attempt yours bob since I am too new to alter/test new circuits and layouts. Its just too much money and time right now to get it wrong but I do appreciate you posting this! Thanks so much.

Any other suggestions from anyone for a 15-20watt dumble with FX and verb?
