Van der Pol oscillator

Post by Andy Le Blanc »

Found this today in an old text, old relaxation circuit.

Anybody know if its specifically AF or RF?

The equations behind it are in physics, seismology, chaos....

Funny where the quest for a simple signal generator can lead.

Probably good for audio with a large enough RC time constant, not sure how high of frequency it can go in that style of operation though. Looks kinda like a common-grid circuit so it's main application is probably RF.

It does AF, I got 3.5v 1038 cps with a 0.033 C1.

super easy signal gen.. You could probably put some caps on a rotary for freq select.
I haven't looked at the wave on a scope, its probably pretty rough,
but in a pinch it'll do. I might guess that a ef86, or 6au6 might sub,
have to double check the pin out. The pot. more sharpens then selects.
