25 Watts just may be enough....

Post by glasman »

Here is a short video of Nicky Moroch playing through my prototype 25W Zingaro at NAMM last week. This just may become my favorite amp for jam sessions.

Amp Information.

2x6V6 - 460V on the plates biased about 50%. Standard PI. Currently loaded with JJ's.
4x12AX7s JJ (Preamp, OD, Loop and PI). High plates.
GW solid state reverb.
G1265 Speaker.

Now if I could only pay like this.

Forgot to mention, Nicky had both the boost and overdrive enabled.

Is the solidstate verb in the amp or a standalone unit?

The reverb is integrated into the amp. It is the same circuit that I use for the Super Overdrive II.

The box that you see in the video (on top of the amp sitting on the Zingaro) is my Reverb-A-Loop. It is a single channel effects loop with built in post loop effects processor. Someday I will have to start trying to sell them. There are only two in existance, I own one and I gave the other to Henry Kaiser for use with his Dumbles.

Maybe a couple.

For the near term the 25W and 100W Zingaro (along with the 50W) are now available.
I will probably release the 'Reverb-A-Loop' beginning of Q2.

Later this year I still want to build a mega 160W+ amp (just for fun). KT88 based.

Class A amp for the low power people. (10 to 15 Watts). Here are a couple of pictures of the first prototype. Freaking thing sounds HUGE. The coupling caps are some cool NOS Vitamin Q's I scored on fleabay.

Thanks. Playing is all Nicky. I am pretty sure he could make a Gorilla amp sound good :).

460 Volts on the plates using JJ's........6V6S tube?

When you run that high what do you keep the screens at?

Do you think other brands of 6V6 tubes would survive? Tung Sol (new sensor stuff) for instance...

Oh and if the screen voltage is a trade secret...well I can understand that... keep it secret.

The screen are dropped about 10V. I am still playing in that area, it is a prototype and I will be finalizing it in a few weeks. The reason I choose the JJ's is that they are known to withstand higher voltages.

Another trick I will probably add to the 6V6 amp is a resistor in the PT center tap. 100 to 200 ohms will drop the voltages nicely and add a little sag to the response.

Very nice Gary
between you and Tony(VVT),Henry(Redplate)you guys have really set the bar high for "grab and go"
tone oozing versatile amps.IMHO you guys are not only inspiring seasoned professional players, but also a community of hobbyist striving to build "that one" amp(or as it turns out a few )... my sincerest thanks

on another note

difference between this and adding zener(s)?
PI and bypass cap values(range)?
is there a NFB circuit (range)?
